Alva Markelius es una estudiante de Maestría en Ética y Sociedad de la IA en el Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence de la Universidad de Cambridge. También es ingeniera de investigación en el laboratorio DICE (www.dice-r-lab.com/) en la Institución de TI Aplicada, Universidad de Gotemburgo, y ganadora del premio 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ 2024.
Sus principales intereses de investigación son la ética de la IA y la robótica social, la cognición personificada, el afecto y la emoción, el género y la interseccionalidad, las narrativas globales de IA e imaginarios socio-técnicos.
También es presidenta de la Sociedad de Ética de la IA de la Universidad de Cambridge (cuaiethics.com/) - una sociedad dirigida por estudiantes con el objetivo de crear un espacio para explorar críticamente cómo la IA y las tecnologías emergentes pueden asegurar y promover mejor los ideales de justicia social y democracia a escala local, nacional e internacional. Además, es parte del Comité de la Comunidad de Carreras Tempranas del Centro para la IA Inspirada en Humanos, y presidenta de jóvenes del Congreso Internacional sobre Robótica Social 2024.
Obtuvo su licenciatura en ciencias cognitivas en la Universidad de Gotemburgo y la Universidad Nacional de Seúl, donde se especializó en IA y robótica.

Alva Markelius is an AI Ethics & Society MSt student at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at the University of Cambridge. She is also a research engineer at the DICE - lab (www.dice-r-lab.com/) at the Institution for Applied IT, University of Gothenburg and recipient of 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics™ award 2024.
Her main research interests are the ethics of social AI and robotics, embodied cognition, affect and emotion, gender and intersectionality, global AI narratives and socio-technical imaginaries.
She is also president of Cambridge University AI Ethics Society (cuaiethics.com/) - a student run society aimed at creating a space to critically explore how AI and emerging technologies can best secure and further the ideals of social justice and democracy at local, national, and international scales. Furthermore, she is part of the Centre for Human Inspired AI Early Career Community Committee, and young leaders Chair of International Conference on Social Robotics 2024.
She obtained her bachelor degree in cognitive science at the University of Gothenburg and Seoul National University where she specialised in AI and robotics.
