If like me you have a LOT of wood stirring sticks left from before you bought silicone or plastic ones...just resin or paint coat them. No more porous surface.

You can make your own pressure pot with a bucket (with a lid with a rubber seal), a tire pressure gauge, and a bike tire pump. I made one for $20 and I recommend no more than 20 pounds of pressure but keep in mind that the bottom will bow out a little. Mine works wonderfully

Such a helpful video. I have a question though, when I pour the resin that is bubble free into the mold it starts to get bubbles in the mold and at the bottom of the mold. How can that be prevented? Also sometimes when I start to pour in the middle of the mold, it will get bubbles as well. The alcohol method doesn’t work for me :( I spray once and it created more bubbles. Ami doing something wrong?

When using a pressure pot you want to make sure that the mold is level when you sit it in the bottom of the pressure pot. If not, it will cure unlevel. Also, when airing up the pot, you want to make sure that the air going in is deflected so it doesn't blow directly on the mold. It might blow some of the resin out of the mold.

Great video can i ask as we have just started resin and would you know why the mould would start sticking to the resin? For example wen set we take resin out of the moulds and tiny small pink bits end up on the resin and ruin the moulds so we cant use again. We have also noticed alot of bending on the moulds after use?

Did you use a torch or heat gun on the mold? Sometimes that can melt the mold and cause it to break faster than usual.

Good idea, same goes for inclusions like dried flowers, etc. "Wet" them in resin first, it makes them shed bubbles much easier.

Lots of great tips! Thanks! I was thinking of using an electric sander attached to a table for shaking the bubbles to the top. Never thought of an ultrasonic cleaner. Gonna get me one, now. I have a pressure pot and love it. I'd been recommending them, as they're under $100 at Harbor Freight Tools. But I kept forgetting that a person would also need a compressor, because I already had one. Vacuum chambers can be extremely messy, as the bubbles can turn to foam and bubble out all over the inside of the chamber. When I first started with resin. I bought a chef's torch. No matter how careful I was with it, I still burned (and ruined) a couple molds. I never use it anymore, choosing a heat gun, instead. Thanks for another great video! Maybe you'll do one on safety, too.

I’m never quite sure where the tip of the flame is on a torch 🤣 it just scares me. The electric sander is a good idea! I do want to get a pressure pot eventually, just need to clear up some space and figure all the parts to get. Thanks for watching!

Poppy DIY Crafts what I do is I put both parts into hot water (as hot as a tap can get) for 10 minutes. then I pour part A into a plastic cup and rest it in another container of hot water for 10 minutes. I then pour an equal amount of part B and adding coloring into the cup and mix as slowly as I can. Then I put it back into a fresh container of hot water. For another 10 minutes leaving the popsicle in the mix. After the 10 minutes are up i pull the popsicle stick out as slowly as possible. I then use pipettes to transfer the resin into the mold. When pouring the resin in I inject the resin to the point where the pipette starts to taper down. Then I pull it out as to not introduce any extra bubbles. Unfortunately I’m getting a huge bubble on the top of the mold

Came to your video because it mentioned alcohol and I haven’t misted alcohol yet, sooo... Your video was very helpful; I never considered the wooden sticks could introduce air bubbles! Being a jeweler for many years, I have an ultrasonic I can put to good use again, but what did you mean about it taking 5 minutes? Does it take that long to actually get it to pop bubbles? Please let me know! I just ruined a very time intensive piece by using the wrong resin and I’m looking for any and all methods to reduce bubbles! Another ultrasonic tip could work simultaneously....with the water level low, so as not to take a chance of water getting to the resin, instead of a cup or mug warmer, you could just have warm water in the ultrasonic and mix the resin while it’s in the ultrasonic. Just a thought. Won’t use the alcohol mist just yet since I have the mister, but the 91% alcohol isn’t in yet. Oh well...if I do everything else, it’ll be fine, now that I’m NOT using the alumilite clear! LOL

My ultrasonic machine auto runs for 5 mins so I just let it run. Yes, I do use only a bit of water and a much taller cup so that there is no risk of tipping over or getting water inside. The ultrasonic doesn't pop the bubbles, it shakes the cup to help the bubbles rise to the top, and then you can quickly blast it with a heat gun or flame to pop them.
@freewaybaby
@freewaybaby 3 жыл бұрын
@@PoppyDIYCrafts Ohhh, gotcha! Well, that’s what I observed when I went ahead and tried it! It was amazing how many bubbles showed up, but, like you said, they didn’t pop, so l went ahead and used the torch! My ultrasonic has a timer you can set or set to stay on and a heater, but the resin was thickening faster than usual, soo, may not use the heat during mixing. Thanks for your reply!

I'm confused because you said that popsicle sticks can introduce air bubbles into your resin but soon after you recommend using a wooden craft stick to go around the edges of your mold... Wouldn't you be introducing air bubbles into the resin? According to your previous statement you would be introducing bubbles if you used craft sticks
@PoppyDIYCrafts
@PoppyDIYCrafts 3 жыл бұрын
Typically I stir for 5 minutes to mix the resin, this is where I think the bubbles can be added if using a wooden stick and the stirring motion. However, when popping bubbles after a pour, you're just quickly running it around the edges or poking a bubble to pop it, not stirring or creating a lot of movement to add more bubble. At least that's what I imagine is happening :)
