Why is it so satisfying to watch videos of someone else's grocery hauls? My husband is always so confused but it's so much fun for me 😂😂. We spend a lot on groceries for our family of 5. We buy primarily organic with a large azure standard order every month and buy most of our meat from a local farm. Some of the monthly budget is also food going into long term food storage and we host several times a week so it makes sense for us :)

Groceries are insane in the Netherlands too. We are at record level inflation at around 12% but meat and dairy have gone way up, beyond that. Sadly, I don't have the space for a big freezer and in little Dutch houses many people don't have the storage for a lot of bulk. I try to shop sales. We are eating many meatless meals, etc. It is just hard.
@Martipenny
@Martipenny Жыл бұрын
Can totally relate to small houses and not much storage but you can get really creative with it as I’m sure you know. My friend wanted long term storage or bulk storage and started using under her beds for that. She also cleaned out her closets of things she never used in a year and started tucking away her bulk storage items. She got really creative putting a “shelf”(boxes with her winter/or summer clothes) behind her couch and covering it with a table cloth of a color to match her decor and used it as a sort of table. I told her to put a piece of shelf board on top before the cloth and now she can put a lamp on it. No one ever notices it. One note tho, she has to keep an inventory written down of what is where in her house. But she’s able to have an inventory of bulk items stored in her very small house.

I challenge you to do the same thing as this month for October through December right around 170 or less and then you'd average 350 a month this year and be able to continue using up your stock. You definitely have enough freezer meat, I think it's very doable! Fresh produce and dairy only, a few clearance finds/sales on lunch meat/etc and you're set! :) I've been watching all year, pretty invested now lol

I am a single woman who for many years cooked for a family of six but haven’t done that in a long long time. When we were hearing about food shortages, I really worked hard to build up supplies thinking that I would use them and replace them as I went along but I’d always have a surplus. To my shock, some things I haven’t even made a dent in. I live in New Jersey and I average about $150 a week! I am 65 and I don’t say no to myself if I want some thing but I still try to buy deals and be frugal. I suspect though if I couldn’t leave my house between now and January one I’d have plenty of food for the most part.

@@virginiablasi7109 Your words are so true! Personally, I have just started tracking my spending for the last couple of months, and I notice that I am buying vegetarian burger patties at $2 to $3 a pop, and a lot of expensive cheeses and baking with almond flour, eating a lot of cashews and nuts for snacks, so.. I made my own veggie burgers for 30 ¢ each, and am changing some of my snacking habits from expensive nuts and cheeses , and I think this month's bills ( knock on wood) will be closer for $400 , rather than the $500 I was spending! I am refraining from shopping whenever I feel like and trying to meal prep a bit more... I wonder if I could knock it down a bit more later as I learn more; We will see! Even $400 month would be a lot better than $500 month! Good luck to you! cheers from Vancouver!

But if you can do this, we should be able to do it! I've been really inspired to cut back this month and haven't gone to the grocery store yet (today's the 8th). I think I'm just going to go replenish our produce and gets some soy milk (mostly vegan family) and that will be it. We still have SO much food in our fridge and freezer! Plus we're well stocked on dry beans. Last night I made a huge pot of split pea soup along with your crusty bread recipe, and we have enough for another meal today. My goal for my family of 7 is $175 per week. Now I think that is totally doable but I get caught on impulse buys or “good deals” and don’t make that all the time. I could even do better if I used my long term storage. Now my concern with eating out of that and my pantry is that things are so unstable in the world.

I love your videos & your laugh! Great job on the garden items. 👌 White cheddar is simply cheddar cheese without the orange, artificial coloring found in cheese sold in America.

My family of 4 (two adults, 2 teens) spends $650/month on groceries. Between 2018-2021, it was closer to $580/month. Food is considerably more expensive where I am and alot of similar families spend $800-$900 while my husband's single + no dependents coworkers are spending $500-$600 excluding pets.

I'm in New York, Long Island actually & my family of 3 adults probably spends like $500. I don't have a discount store & my bread outlet closed. I don't track as closely as I should because we restarted our pantry after moving to a place with a much better kitchen few months ago. My goal next year is to get under $400/ month. I think with more trips to the store for clearance shopping I can do it, I get good deals but nothing like what Christine gets!

I have a family of 3 adults .. everyone packs a lunch...makes coffee ...eats breakfast at home..I don't know how to get below $600 a month! Any tips??

@@dianahurst6377 Prices depend a lot on where you live and can't be controlled. The easiest way (for me), besides shopping the sales, is portion control. Learn how much a serving *should be. Most people eat more than they need. I realize that some people do need more (athletes, outdoor workers, etc),. Make enough for plenty of leftovers (I call them "plannedovers"). If you make a casserole, make 2 and freeze one for later. Stretch the meat in your meal ... if making chili, add extra beans. Plan meals around soups and stews. Have breakfast for dinner.

Diana, not much prepackaged stuff, but one big bag of chips instead of all Thr little ones, make your own dessert, no drinks purchased.... just water bottles, anytime something is on an hood sale, but extra and stock it up.... go to the deli counter and get the sliced meats and cheese, rather then the small package.. watch your regular meat section for sales.... some times buying a pound of green beans fresh and either canning or freeing them is less then buy them already frozen or in cans... no name brand stuff... the name brand stuff and the generic brand are exactly the same just a different label.. if you find Bread for under a dollar, buy a bunch and freeze. Etc.. also going to Costco or sams club abs getting bill is cheaper, build up you stock pile.. only buy in sale, I am a stay at home farm mom, very small income.. convenient foods like boxes cereal had to go etc!!!learn to can your own foods.. it saves a huge amount.......if you have the freezer spacw buy meats from a local farmer in bulk

Hi Christine! Maybe with some of the canned and non-perishable items you are not sure you want to use like the pasta & sauce, you might consider donating to a food pantry. They are strapped for donations because of the "inflation", and you would be helping out someone who needs anything. I know you do this already, but I just thought I'd put it out there for anyone else.

Nice Work Christine! have learned so much from you this year. Thank you! I made a snack box and seasoning box like you did. We are just about to make some savings goals - similar to how you shared with us. I am getting ready to embark on a muscle building journey on a low budget with weird metabolism. I had Duodenal Switch weight loss surgery about 10 years ago so I absorb around 60% of protein/simple carbs 20% of fats, and 100% of complex carbs (and alcohol if I drank that). I would so love to sit down with you, your mom and your sister to chat about this. Your mom could teach me about nutrients, your sister about training self to beast mode and you could help me brainstorm on the thriftiest, simple delicious way to consume alllllllll of that protein.
