I know... the padlock in video 1731 looks like a Ruko, but it is really an Assa Abloy Zeiss Ikon. Does Assa Abloy own EVERYTHING?

Assa Abloy is not a German company. It was formed in 1994 through the merger of the Swedish firm Assa and the Finnish high security lock manufacturer Abloy. Assa Abloy has its headquarters in Stockholm.

The core in that lock is German I belive. I have the same lock but in Sweden and it has the usual old 7 pin Assa core. It's an old lock from the early 90's

I have a suggestion for your camera work: Can you please fix the focus right after fixing the lock in the vice for picking and then reactivate autofocus once you remove the lock? It's often quite a headache when the autofocus shifts around wildly while you tell us about slight turns on the core, but it's all blurred to us or the focus just keeps jumping around. Would be really great!

Fun fact regarding Assa Abloy The name is a merger between two lock companies. Assa is named from the founder Assar Gabrielsson and Abloy is from the Finnish company Låsbolaget (lock company) with both the Swedish AB and Finnish OY for a stock company. So it translates in to Assar Gabrielsson - AB Lock company OY

Nice lock. I particularly like the rounded bevel on the anti-drill front of the core that adds extra security against drilling or milling. A good design

I have a zeiss mortise cylinder that took me months of fighting with until I bought my .015" picks. Finally got it picked and disassembled, it had a combination of spools and barrel pins for the drivers. I don't have a key, so not putting that sucker back together even with the right tools it was not easy. . Was going to make it a challenge lock once I got a blank, but you stopped doing those. So haven't bothered yet. Haha. Great video as always. Keep it up and stay safe.

The pressure those picks put on your finger made me realise why you have so many scars and cuts. And I don't just mean the ones you get playing with your cat😂 . Can you put covers or something on them? It just seems ergonomically uncomfortable but I imagine it may interfere with dexterity. Anyway been a long time sub and I enjoy your videos, I find it very interesting.

Those para centric keyways don't have make picking them a challenge. Maybe shorter key pins and those other spools would have worked you even harder. Very nicely picked

I think that the seventh pin could be used as a security pin with tappering on the edge with a spool like cut to make you think you need to push it in more, but makes a false set which you need to reset the lock for.

Thanks Bill. Very interesting that two of those spools didn't really work as such. That barrel and keyway are reminiscent of standard Eurolocks. I've a question for you: Assa Abloy are a Swedish company, so either they've supplied these locks to Zeiss Ikon, or else Zeiss made them under license from Assa. Or do they own Zeiss?
@coladict

Is there a reason other than patents that they went with a snowman-shaped core, instead of a europrofile? They certainly have enough room to fit it.
@Warooze
@Warooze 4 жыл бұрын
Propably because oval and round cylinders are the the standard in the Scandinavian countries, snowman cylinders can be made for several of the key-systems used in oval & round cylinders. As far as I know, this is not the case for europrofile cylinders. Eurocylinders are basically only used for baracks here in Sweden.

Dumb newbie question. Got my Praxis Dangerfield kit, and I'm messing with a Master #3. I can rake it open with some effort but for the life of me cannot SPP this devil. I can get the back 2 pins to bind and a small click from them but then once they are set I can't get 1 or 2 to bind. I've tried different order, #1 has a really weak spring I think isn't helping. I've had this padlock 20+ years and it's well used so I figured it would be a super easy SPP. Might just have to send it to you with the challenge of using only the Dangerfield kit pics to open to see the error on my ways. It's an awesome kit so far but I definitely need a few more multi pick tension bars. The Praxis kit I can get the thin bar in the #3 but it's tight.
