Part 1 of my Mower mounted leaf and grass vacuum system I designed for picking up yard waste. This video includes most of the materials used, mounting the Predator 212 and building a steel impeller from scratch. Hope you enjoy.

I laughed when I seen you flip that motor around. That's exactly something I would have done. LOL Lessons learned.

Well done. I may make one of those for my yard. Off topic - love the Predator engines. I bought one for $99 on a father's day sale.

I mounted a 5hp chipper motor in front of the box. Feeds from the side and dumps into the box. Big hinged door on top and bottom of box. Exit chute is easy to remove for clogs. All transitions need to be smooth so they dont clog. Making transitions from fiberglass are great.

I made one out of old BP gas pump tops from aluminum. Welded frame from 1" sq tube. It was short so two years ago i doubled the height and made that section from an aluminum truck topper. Pop riveted the alum angles for a frame. Swivel wheels and ridgid mount. Transition from the mower deck to the 8" diameter tube is steel but has to be as smooth as possible so leaves don't clog the system. Tube was the only thing I had to buy; not cheap. Works with DRY LEAVES very well. Works fantastic.

When welding the veins, you can do stitch welds to reduce heat input and warping. Clamping the hell out of it works too but it puts a lot of heat into the steel\stainless doing the whole 3" weld. If its a rust issue you need to reduce heat input if anyone's interested. You made a fantastic build aside from that, I am envious!🇨🇦👊🏻👨🏻‍🏭✨💖😙👌

U r a brave soul to build and try to balance an impeller that’s gonna be spinning 3000+ rpm just a couple feet from your back! Looking forward to the next video.

Thank you Daryl. You are so right. I had a minor incident with the impeller in the beginning which I will explain later. Since then I have about 10 hours running this vacuum with no problems. Thanks for watching. Take care.

I was wondering about that myself. I'm no expert, but I know that at 3000 RPM, it had better be balanced correctly.

Stephen, son it’s been a while. So glad to see you still out there being busy. I see you’ve stopped shaving(so did I bout 25 yrs. ago). It also looks like retirement is being good for you or you’re staying at the dinner table longer(ha,ha) not being critical friend, just glad to see you sharing some of your many many talents. Looking forward to part 2. Looking good so far. Oh, how’s that Georgia heat? Over a 100 heat index in MS today.

Thank you Zetus. I had to shave most of my life and now I am glad I can just let it go sometimes. My new smoker (Gurdy) keeps me eating too much BBQ. LOL!! Glad you are still enjoying my channel, buddy. Take care.

My unit also works great without the mower deck. Short neck vaccum. You can allways extend the hose.

Nice to see you designed and built your impeller!! It is leaf season for me right now and drooling over a leaf vacuum. What thickness did you use for the blades and backing plate? It looks like 1/4"??? Nice work, and thanks for not having some loud guitar music and flashy stuff at the beginning. Keep up the good work.

Can anyone tell me what kind of welding he's doing? I think this would be a good project to buy myself a welder and give it a try. Based on a little research I've done, I'm guessing this is a flux core welder?

Thank you Dave. Glad you enjoyed this project. It is MIG welding. I am surely not very good at it but it is a lot of fun to learn. Take the step and you will see. Oh yeah, the leaf collector is still working very well. Well once I got the engine turned the right way. LOL Fun project. Take care.
