Awsome job. Only afterthought suggestion for you to still do or anyone else building one including me when i copy your idea. Have a metal collar that the bolts go through. This way you can tighten right down to deck as tight as you want and theres no stress on the fiberglass. Could use anything, a nutsert or even nut with the threads drilling out if your cheap like me.. 👍

Amen brother! I love your comments about the tools quality (mine too). It is probably the best designed coring tool but has the poorest quality of craftsmanship (if you can call it that)

Thank you sir. No, I only use standard chains. Hope this helps. Take care.

I've turned several of these red cedar bowls and still have lots of blanks ready to turn, you said something about it being brittle, I haven't noticed that, it turns like clay, just find lots of small cracks, and C.A. glue works good on that. I cut my blanks out the same way except I use a pick instead of a nail, but they make beautiful bowls, I only use polishing grit and bee's wax for the finish, so not to cover the cedar smell !

I've never seen a vac fan set up like that. Typically the air comes in from the (open) side and out the side you are using as an inlet. I'm really curious to see how this is gonna work. I really like how you fabbed the fiberglass adapters.

I will be making one of these. Thank you for your work and showing the areas to be cautious. Too much of this world would expect you to show the math and be responsible for someone putting their hand into the blades. We both know it is what it is. I hope mine turns out as good. Hope all is well.

When you have a blower sucking air out of the same room as your fire uses, you have just built yourself a smoke bomb. A good firewood stove will have air pipes to the outside , then your room doesn't have a vacuum to suck in cold air and your lung will appreciate it.
@StephenOgle5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your insight. However, there is no vacuum produced by the blower. It takes cold air from the shop and after being warmed by the pipes, it is then sent back into the shop. It is a completely closed system and separate from the fire box so there is no smoke coming into the shop except for the small amount when I open the door to add fuel. No smoke bombs yet. Thank you for your comments. Take care.

I'm going to start making some mugs using your technique. I've seen this vid as well as your 2-parter which are fantastic. One thing I'm having trouble finding is a template for the handle. To you sell your template or know where I could go to d/l it?? I'm seeing a lot of handles although none with dimensions. Thx.
@StephenOgle5 ай бұрын
Thank you Andy. Glad you enjoyed this project. I have an Inkspace drawing. No dimensions though. You can print or resize however you would like. Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will send it to you. Hope this helps.

I split them down the pith. Granted it was on littler logs. But I could see the pith through both halves, it was right on the surface of both. It looked like a long skinny caterpillar. The wood never split anymore after that either and was easier than sawing too.

A trick if seen, is if you put just a tiny pinch of rock salt between the wood pieces you're gluing together, it'll stop it from sliding around while you're clamping them together

So glad to see you back. If I may make a suggestion, you have way to much vibration on your lathe. This is just me but I would cut a square hole the size of your lathe and frame it up with block fill it with something and pour concrete over it making the concrete level with your floor. Then no more vibration at all. Vibration always hurts when doing intricate cuts. This is just my thoughts and I may be crazy. Happy woodturning. I really like your woodturnings.
