Man. You are my idol John. Keep doing what you are doing. I am a person like you. I'm into the farming for the people. I hate the big box stores yadeya. I think the biggest issue with folks not being able to get started is being stuck in apartments or terribly lit yards. Even then though usually you can do something...... Anyways. Just wanted to say you rock. Words can not express how much I appreciate you and intend to be just like you. I don't want this planet to die quiet yet and I'm a young guy 22 years old. I want my children to live in a healthy happy world. I can't bring them to eat the crap at the stores. KEEP ON FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT AND MUCH LOVE!!! :)))

How apropos! I've been intrigued with your idea of bypassing the bee pollen and getting the stuff direct from the source instead. Been looking into edible flowers and have read a lot about what a delicacy Day Lilies are with nearly every part of the plant being edible-- not to mention it's a perennial that will seemingly grow in just about any kind of soil and in partial shade! I haven't watched ALL of your videos, but I have seen quite a few and I've only seen you mention Day Lilies once. Is there any reason you don't seem to have them growing in your garden?

I love this video! My favorite flowers are gingers that have edible flowers. Indian head ginger (Costus scaber rhizome) will produce a flower bud every day for a couple of weeks when it is in season that tastes like strawberry lemonade! Note, do not eat the main bud, but the flowers that come out one at a time. There are a ton more flowers that I eat that he did not mention here, but these Indian head gingers are my favorite.

John, was talking to a nutritionist at our local farmers' market. She was interested in our Mountain Mint as i was telling her it was our strongest mint. She planned to add it to her salads. I said i've never tried, tho right here available. She said to eat as many strong flavours as possible, cuz overpowering our tastebuds is how we top up our nourishment & boost our immunity, etc. Much thanks for this vid. Post edit: Wow, our bee balm has red flowers. Are any varieties of bee balm related to Bergamot, or are they just a good substitute?

I'm planning to expand my herbs and use what John has taught us, be making my first batch of soil mix. but with non edible plants, I have a lot of cacti/cactus/succulent and they have been facing a few problems with insects and growth. I was wondering is it necessary to use cactus compost only(?) maybe add a bit of my soil mix to cacti/cactus/succulent(?)

In Sri Lanka we eat bumpkin flowers, we make dishes from it, even the tender leaves..
@jayamilapersson4030
@jayamilapersson4030 6 жыл бұрын
Harshi Wickramasinghe what is a bumkin? Anyway Im adopted from Sri lanka but I have lived in Sweden My whole life( minus around 6 weeks) so Im curious about Sri lanka My name is Anna Maria but My middle name is Jayamila Im poor right now like Ive got like a 100 rupies to live on until I get more money next week but thats not a good way to describe how much I can get for 100rupies worth in Sweden but I can get about one fruit(like one banana) or 400grams of potatoes, or about 100g of rice or one or two onions. My apartment( Rental ) is a very cheap one but it still will cost me 100 000 rupies worth every month you see that this is going right You can probably get more out of a 100 rupies then I can that makes you guys think we are richer not only because we can pay for the trip but also can pay like 1500 rupies for a sari that is actually worth like 200 and we might still think it where cheap. So what Im saying is I dont have enough money to travel but I really would like to someday. To you My income that is about 250 000 worth of rupies each month seems like alot but I get so little out of that money only barely enough to live on. So I want you to think about that turists are only rich when they are in your country not when they are at home in their own country. Many ppl actually takes loans on the house to be able to afford to travel.

I think Collard flowers are a lot sweeter and tastier than broccoli or kale flowers. I really like using sunflowers, but I use the flower buds. I use the big buds like artichokes by blanching them and then peeling them. I use the smaller ones by blanching them and then saute or grill them. The water from the blanching is great - it tastes like mild sunflower seeds. I have a video about using them as artichokes: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLJoqNuaz5-YnZc.html

Many plants will drop their flowers when the temperature rises above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the soil in Las Vegas is very alkaline, and the clay makes it even more difficult for plants to absorb nutrients. Touch base with the Desert Demonstration Garden and Springs Preserve (off of Alta and Valley View, near the Meadows Mall.,) They offer classes on gardening in this climate.
