It's been my experience with briggs engines that the intake valve usually never 100% closes. This is their way of having a compression release on their larger engines.

I think the knock might be the blower housing.

hey my man i got the same engine on my log splitter can't find any numbers besides 18hp power built where did u find the head gaskets any part numbers help a brother out

TRUTH>> I have a BRAND NEW (NOT REBUILT) BRAND NEW with about 5 min run time I think it's a 1990' It is a 18 twin 2 IC Plus .looks like yours Some guy bought it in early 90s and shelved it . When I got it from him I thought he had to be bull chiting but he wasn't You can tell by the factory paint all bolts have not been touched I ran it just to make sure it ran . But did not break it in .Still has factory paint on muffler and pipes . That will all burn off after 20 min of run time. I'll do a video when I have time and I am going to sell it . I'm a retired high performance GM tech Corvette division. I really haven't a clue what it's worth I have been told around $6500. I have rebuilt and sold similar ones for$ 2600 I've seen them used on E bay From $300 -$500 I work on Harleys and John Deere compact tractors . I like the 2 cylinder L head engines like this and also Onan I have a ton of used parts for each

im guna go one under each footplate or rite out the back im allso guna make it so i can reuse the stock cans on the ends on my streat pipes just for driven on road an stuff so ppl dont bitch its to loud lol
