It's crazy how when you watch someone else play you can spot these neat tricks and opportunities or see a long mate (I saw hans' idea before he castled) but if I'm playing I get so caught up thinking about what my plan could or should be I won't take advantage or even spot the same dangers! The fact GMs can spot these opportunities and calculate the exact lines so quickly will never cease to amaze me

I find the fact that we spot these neat tactics much more often in games we watch actually encouraging. It means that we just get carried away and get tunnel vision. Should be easier to fix than getting better.

I love the game of chess and I actually consider myself pretty decent. Not anywhere of this caliber. Obviously. Just a decent recreational player. These guys are just on a whole different level than most people. The fact that they can calculate so many moves ahead. It is really incredible. You should check out the final win of the norm tournament that got Hans his title. It was a beautiful game with no captures and his opponent resigned

Hans's games sure are exciting to watch. Appears pretty casual but always cooking up something. He is great medicine for a chess world that was all a bit too boring.
