It's not as impossible as people make it seem. It's like having 10 shitty options and 2 good options -> It will appear like a 1/12 chance but in reality it's like 50/50 and it becomes even higher probability when you add in skill and the difficulty of the position and strength of the opponents moves.

Just a note that this DOES happen lol I was analyzing a rapid game of mine (2200s lichess) where I was positionally crushing at +3.9. I made a move other than the top 3 engine lines and the evaluation jumped to +4.4. Even after SHOWING the engine that, it still didn't see the move when going back to the +3.9 position.

You know the thing about cheating - when someone is caught, it's likely not the first time. It's usually when someone, emboldened by the success of earlier cheating attempts, gets cocky and slips up. The fact that Hans was caught more than once, years apart, is indicative of a long-term pattern. This makes it difficult for an objective thinker to see an extraordinary performance by Hans without significant suspicions.
