ESP32 is susceptible to brown out. I had startup problems when I was breadboarding a project but was stable when I perfboarded it with filter and decoupling cap underneath the ESP32

Looks like it was designed to bring you a couple of beers...

We should use efficient boost converters to help with our energy deficiency.

I'm still hanging onto my Radio Shack Armitron robotic arm toy from when I was a kid. For the exact same reason you did. Hoping to update its internals to make it programmable. Would love to have it able to move chess pieces or some other simple game.

Since it is running now, you need to do another IMSAI dog test!

I'm loving these videos.

Me too. It's cool that there is no particular end to these videos. Just (part 7 of ) We will see where it ends up. So far so good. 👍

I am excited to see how you handle the noise problem. I used a esp32 to make a rc car and I have a similar problem where the esp32 will reboot and I have narrowed it down to noise from the motors. I am using Bluetooth however and all of my attempts at filtering haven't been successful.

Cool. Coming on nicely.

Why don't you mount the rest of the quad copter parts on the bot so it can fly around the house (grin).

Because you really want to keep that last line of defense against it when it goes full Dalek - STAIRS!

How neat is that??

Hey, the ESP32 has an I2S audio peripheral in it.. a cheap CODEC and class-D amplifier board could be fun. I'm just imagining the sound from the martians in the "Mars Attacks!" movie, just the sort of thing to have ImsaiDog keep interest in his new buddy. Alternatively, there are sound files kicking around of the flying car noise from The Jetsons cartoon. I have the "slowing down to a stop" sound clib as the lock sound my Tesla plays when it locks as I walk away.

My vote is for a clip from the old Dr. Who of a Dalek on the offensive. Chasing the dog down the hallway screaming "Exterminate! Exterminate!"

Great progress! You might consider replacing the 8v regulator with a buck converter.
@IMSAIGuyАй бұрын
good idea, I did that in a later video
@Enigma758Ай бұрын
@@IMSAIGuy I see that you went from 11v->5v, but assumed you still had the regulator for 11v-8v for the motor.

yes

You crack me up ;-) No idea why you didn’t just put the 5V supply on there to begin with… lol… I have a Heath HERO robot in my attic that was given to me decades ago… maybe I should dig it out and do something similar… It at least has arms that move… unfortunately, it’s a very clumsy mechanical implementation-I think it used a 6809 processor…
@IMSAIGuyАй бұрын
The motors need the higher voltage
@hbengineerАй бұрын
Understood-but splitting the 8V and 5V as you ended up doing just seemed obvious from the start ;-) Leave the 8V to the motor side and don’t derive the 5V/3.3V from it for the ESP32… That damn motor noise is always a hassle… ;-)
@IMSAIGuyАй бұрын
@@hbengineer it works in the original Japanese design. So I started there. Guess I was just slower than you. Glad we both agree now

OMG, no, I didn’t mean it that way! Two different nerds, two different approaches… my apologies if that came across wrong. I cooked at Z8 processor when I was a teenager because I didn’t know you had to separate the power…. That was over 40 years ago…and the lesson stuck… so it just made me chuckle. I wasn’t trying to be critical…
