Peter, Thank you! I had to replace the adhesive on my digitizer. It still worked fine, but the glue had let go and needed to be replaced. I was so thankful to stumble on your video. It sure made this job super easy and the adhesive part was only 8 dollars! Cheapest purchase from Icom I've ever made! Thanks again for such a perfect video.

Just one thing that I learned from repairing many tablets. Set your heat-gun to 80..100°C, place it with a good distance over the glass and let it warm up, just slightly over the temperature you want to touch it. Then close in a bit more and run along the edges and corners that are glued. Now you can push out the glass and you keep most of the stick glue on one side. If it the glass side, you won, if it is the other side, it is much easier to pull it off, if it is in one piece. But never the less, good video again! Many thanks!

Glad I found this video. My 7100 has a dead touch screen, but before it died the radio was possessed, it was scanning wildly, it would then stop and lock up. When I would turn it off, it would turn itself back on. I called ICOM and they said do a full reset. I could not back anything up since the touchscreen was dead. So now it goes into ICOM but at least I know what needs to be done. Excellent video and the comments were all very helpful. BTW, My van was at the repair shop for about ten days in very hot weather, I should have taken the radio out, I suspect that this might be the cause of the problem.

Thank you, Peter. I just finished replacing my digitizer. It was not too difficult. I replaced it from the front. It was easy to remove because there was no glue left behind to clean up. It just popped out.

I like making a wooden scraper from craft sick, Popsicle stick or tongue depressor; just fashion a scraper edge on the wood with a razor knife. Limits risk of gouging plastic with knife. Nice primer on replacing the digitizer Peter.

Great job as usual Peter! Just curious, how did you determine that it was in fact the touch screen vs. the controller chip that led you to this replacement? 73 - Dino KL0S

Wow! 2 TRX Bench videos in a weelk! What a treat. :-) I have 2 quick questions Peter; 1) Since you ordered the digitizer panel beforehand, you should have known that it was not something else...How did you diagnose the problem? 2) What happens to a digitizer board? I mean what goes wrong with them and they stop working like that? Thanks for the video! 7100 is a very good rig.

Hi Peter, First time seeing a digitizer replaced. I noticed a little damage in the upper left corner of old one. Could that have caused it to fail? 73 WB3BJU
@Werlaf5 жыл бұрын
Hello Donald, there is a damage indeed, but it is caused by lifting up the digitizer a little bit. By lifting up I could reactivate the digitizer for a little moment.(changing the capacity)) I think the failure is caused by the hot summer 2018 in the middle europe(the hottest in the last two centuries), I left my IC-7100 a few days in my car at temperatures maybe over 60° Celsius.(stupid, but happened. :-( 73, Olaf

Has anyone experience any problems with the USB on the IC 7100? The usb works fine with control software no issues there. However after using JS8Call for FT8, CAT no longer works. Tried resetting, re-installing application. Decoding no longer works with JS8Call. Now my audio at 50% shows over driving the software or in the RED. Any ideas?

Did you check the head unit to make sure where the fault lay? If so what do you look for? It would be easy to assume the problem and find it somewhere else having replaced the touch screen.

@TRXLab5 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, well that is not easy to say. On one hand I would not say that Icom radios are bad radios but on the other hand we have the most funny faults with Icom radios. I mean any radio brand is failing but Icom is different. Additional to that in Europe Icoms's service strategy is a nightmare. 73
@RobertAhrens525 жыл бұрын
@@TRXLab Thank you. In the past, I was impressed with the quality of Icom rigs. Specifically, the IC-37A was a beautiful, ground-breaking piece of art. But that was a long time ago. I have had Kenwood HF radios for decades - a TS-440SAT - which spent some time at Kenwood repairing the "usual" problems with that radio, and my current TS-570. I have been very happy with both of those radios and still have both of them. I use the '440 when I need a portable rig, and long ago, I even used it mobile. Now I am thinking about buying a dedicated mobile rig and the IC-7100 looks impressive for that purpose. Except for the times I have seen the insides of it on your bench! I am also looking to buy a newer base station rig - and Yaesu has my attention. But I do love Kenwoods. I just feel that the TS-590 is getting a little old. Anyway, thank you for all you do. I greatly enjoy your approach and skill in working on these wonderful examples of modern technology! 73 de NT5A - Bob

No, the LCD SPONGE is behind the plastic front panel and is just a cushion for the actual LCD. The touchscreen part number is 6910023900, which includes 6910023901 (the actual touchscreen glass panel) and 8930095370 (the adhesive). When I ordered from ICOM America, they sent me just the touchscreen without the adhesive, even though this video shows the adhesive pre-applied.

For a resistive digitizer you would need to put a bit pressure to it as that is not the fact I believe it is a capacitive one.

Hm Brett not entirely sure if I got your point??? The radio came in because touch was not working so it was already proofed by the owner??

After 5 years working with this radio, you exactly know, how to handle the touch. A very short fingertip always was enough.(of course Peter got this information). Pressing a certain button for a longer time activates a second function.
