Should we aim to become complete players that have no weaknesses in the game? Is that even realistic? Should we aim for something else?
This quick episode discusses this in a way that could lead to career-strategy-altering insights, hope you enjoy!

Staying on topic with Steffes's post on fb, there's an easy thought experiment to disprove it. Do Rodman, Pippen, or Kerr win a championship without Jordan? On what you're talking about in this podcast, it is the four stages of competence. I would push back by having people work on offense first and then defense on the back side. I feel like it's contrary to popular opinion. It's a concept I stole from chess. All the young gm's are great at attacking and tactics. The positional game takes much longer to learn.

Oh and I'm sure it's diff for diff players. Maybe someone 6'5" just has to work on passing, setting, and blocking. Super specialized, similar to my perception of what indoor players work on.

Yo! I like the concept of unknown unknowns because it's fun to try to imagine what you could be lacking... But it's also hard! For me so far I've gotten help with some technique details I never would've figured out on my own, and it's making me wonder what else I could be missing. What are some unknown unknowns that you yourself managed to discover and maybe even fix?

Haha yes, it's hard because they are exactly that, unknown! 😅 So for me a ton of the unknown unknowns that I have discovered have been technique stuff, but also how certain techniques are dependant on certain physical attributes, like mobility, relative strength between muscle groups etc. Everything about sports psychology used to be a blindspot for me. Lots of knowledge in the category "how to learn new skills faster" was maybe a known unknown for me in the beginning, I knew I hadn't yet figured out all there was to learn. Now in the last few years I have learned that I had a lot of unconscious behaviors in relationships (mainly love relationships but same I'd say also goes for friendships except they are often less "intensive" or "intrusive" on your life so one doesn't realize that there are dysfunctions as easily) that were complete blindspots for me that I'm working on. I'd imagine this will have effect on my dealings with people in the volleyball world in the future also, but can't say too much for sure yet. Just last week I actually was a client of a coaching session where I realized that the money I lost during covid kicked me really hard into fear of losing this business which created a type of pressure in me which has probably made me much worse at running this channel and everything else since then. Yes I believe there are legitimate reasons for lockdowns and regulations etc making my job much harder which is a big reason I haven't been able to produce content with the same intensity as before covid, but I realized that this internal fear of mine has made it even worse. That was also something I was completely blind to. Lots of strategy on how to play in the wind I was blind to until I played in a strong and consistent wind almost every day for months, the long exposure time just forced me to learn. Interestingly enough my beach volleyball goals have so far been a bit different than maybe most player's goals, so it has been more about finding training partners for me than finding someone to partner up with as a player for a longer time. Hope that gives at least some insights, in general whis whole project is coming from the place of trying to create the project I wish would have existed when I started playing, so more or less anything that I say or teach on this channel that isn't commonly taught by pretty much every beach coach out there, falls into this category that I didn't know how to do it but I also didn't really know the problem existed since no coach was able to point it out to me (of course people could point out the result for examplr a shanked ball, but often they wouldn't be able to pinpoint the root cause!)

@@LearnBeachVolleyballFast this is indeed insightful. Thanks for your thoughts and i can't wait until i discover more on my own. And good luck with finding more of your mojo with this project! I love this channel so this last message is also a selfish one!

@@kos6654 Nice! :) Yess, thanks haha. I have obviously struggled with getting content created in the last few years, and I'm realizing there are even several different reasons for it (which some of them I have been blind to..!), but I hope things will turn around now finally.. I'm optimistic they will. Happy to hear people have liked the content enough to hope there will be more coming rather than forgetting who I am, even though this dry-period has been a reality..! 🙏
