Hey Eric, I’ve been a viewer since you made this channel and just wanted to say: You may not get the most views all the time, but what you’re doing is so invaluable for the volleyball community. How much interesting and informative content you put out is amazing, especially as I am trying to become a better libero. Keep on going and keep on being you! :)

It's a warm up drill with 2 people (3 is possible) to practice ball control, passing/digging, setting, and swinging at the ball. You and a partner take turns going back and forth with the ball starting with one person simply passing the ball high enough right to their partner for them to set the ball, the second person then sets the ball right in front of their partner, then the 1st partner who passed the ball swings at the ball that got set to them, and finally the other partner attempts to dig/pass the ball that is swung at them. From that pass the drills start over again with the ball going to the second partner to set and then the person who passed it swings the ball. There's some variation depending on if someone messes up or if a ball is out of system. Its hard to explain in only words so I highly recommend you look it up on youtube. Hope I could help!

Hi, Eric-san! I would like to hear your opinion, maybe sometime in your future video. Japanese national teams, male and female, used to be very good but they changed rules not to let us win. For example, the antennas, not to call over-net for blocks. I think the elimination of the antennas, at least, will make volleyball more interesting because it will make short and fast players more competitive. I know that it will never happen, though. Spike: a hit from a high point. Set: When the setter, hits the ball high above the net so that a spiker can spike it across. Tool : An offensive attack when a hitter hits off the blocker's hands and the ball goes down on the opposing team's side to earn a point. Kill: successful, legal, point-scoring play. It can be from a spike attack, tip or dump. Floater or Float : A non-spinning serve characterized by unpredictable, erratic movement during flight caused by airflow interacting with the seams of the ball. Line: No idea which one they mean. Pipe : A back row set aimed at the middle of the court Seam: When serving, the area between passers on serve receive; when attacking, the area between blockers or back row defenders. Ace: A serve which lands in the opponent's court without being touched, or is touched but unable to be kept in play by one or more receiving team players Dig: A defensive contact following an opponent's attack resulting in a playable ball. Free ball: A ball that is passed over the net because an attack wasn't possible. Roof : When the defensive player blocks a ball so hard that it is immediately returned to the hitter and goes straight to the floor. Pokey : A ball contacted with the knuckles especially on the beach. Pepper: A drill in which players hit a ball back and forth in a pass, set, spike, pass, set, spike, etc. pattern without a net. Touch: When a player touches the ball probably during defence. Tip : A softer or off-speed finesse attack, usually committed with more of the fingers and fingertips than the whole hand as used in an attack. Shank: When a player unintentionally passes a ball in a wild manner, rendering it unplayable to their teammates. Side out: When the team that served the ball loses the rally, causing the other team to serve the next point. Take these with a grain of salt, I'm not a professional and not involved in volleyball in any way other than playing with friends.

9:00 I honestly don’t get why they tried to differentiate between a girl’s cheer and a guy’s cheer. My club team (girls) cheer the same way the guys do in the video every time we get a kill/ace. And as far as I’m concerned, every girls team I’ve played against/seen cheer the same way as my team does. I’ve been to multiple large scale tournaments with 100+ teams, over 1000 being the max, so that says a lot. Bonus, my teammates have full on bodied me as a way to celebrate. Knocks the absolute wind out of me, but i absolutely love it. It proves how much they love the game/sport and how strong our bond as a team is.

I will say that in USA, girls volleyball is a more popular middle and high school sport than boys volleyball. And since there are more girls teams, you definitely see more "casual" girls teams, while the only boys who ever play volleyball are the ones that are serious. I've definitely seen girls tournaments where some teams are staying warm and other teams are just off doing "girly" things like nails or hair or whatnot. Never seen that for boys, but there are generally less teams for high school boys. It's really more just a consequence of numbers, not gender directly.
@yelenasimp2936
@yelenasimp2936 2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry, but who exactly said we were only talking about the USA here?? /gen and who said this was only middle school and high school volleyball?? while we’re on the topic tho, middle school volleyball is mostly a complete joke (in the USA). The coaches are almost always one of the school’s staffs who have no experience in the field and the players hardly ever actually learn anything that’s actually useful. What level of school volleyball are you playing for to be seeing that? Guys don’t even have long hair (majority of the time) to do so I don’t see the point in you mentioning that, but doing each other’s nails? Yall’s tournaments must mean absolutely nothing if the players bring beauty products to use during their time off. But since you’re speaking based on your own experience, I will do the same. The boy’s varsity team for my high school come to their games with pigtails and pink bows which is pretty “girly” if you ask me. Of the 1000+ girls teams I’ve seen in my entire volleyball career, I’ve never once seen a girl’s team come to a game in such a manner. Not even my 7th grade team from years ago had the luxury of doing absolutely nothing during our off time. No, it’s definitely a gender differentiation. There being more girls team then there is for guys doesn’t mean tires normal for them to slack off and do “girly” things.

@@yelenasimp2936 I'm not sure if this is true, but you sound aggressive, so I'd just like to say that there was no attempt to offend you. If you don't mind, I'll address the bottom of your comments first. You said that having more girls teams than guys teams doesn't mean that it's normal for teams to slack off. But actually, that is exactly the case (not just for volleyball). When numbers increase, a larger proportion of them are less serious. This is something known as the Pareto Distribution, which is one of the most accurate statistical distributions in economics. It's even known to model things such as the success of iTunes songs, the energy efficiency of electronics, the size of grains of sand on a beach, the success of KZfaq channels, etc. Now, it's possible that girls volleyball is a statistical anomoly, but if girls volleyball (and boys volleyball) is characteristic of society, it absolutely would mean there are a larger proportion of girls teams slacking off simply because there are more girls teams. I'd like to add that I am not (or not trying to) speak based on my anecdotes or experience. I'm just trying to remain objective and look at the statistics. As for the first comment on why I was speaking based on USA, it was simply because the group that filmed the video (IFHT Films) is Canadian (North American), and at the very least, I am more familiar with how volleyball is handled in North America than Europe. Perhaps I should have included Canada in my description as well, so fair enough. The reason why I said middle and high school, this is for a few reasons. First, it seems like they are filming in high school gyms. Second, most volleyball experience happens in middle and high school and most players do not go on to play at a college or professional level. As IFHT Films is a comedy film channel and not a volleyball film channel, it is reasonable to think that their experience is based on their time in gym class, high school, or interviewing other high school volleyball players for funny takes or jokes. With the exception of a few of their actors, most of them don't seem to be very skilled at volleyball. Anyway, I'd just like to repeat that I was not attempting to debate, argue, or upset you in anyway. I was just pointing out a reason for why the "gender joke" existed in the video. That is, the combination of casual volleyball experience, North American volleyball culture, statistics and biases that result from those statistics, and an attempt at comedy.

@@Manakyn i apologize if I came off as aggressive, that’s just how I type. I don’t take offense to things said by people online so you don’t have to worry about that. As for what you said in the first paragraph, I agree. However, I used the word “normal” in my last point, and not “common” for a reason. Yes, there are more girls team slacking off as compared to guys team due to the significant number difference which but in no way, shape, or form is it “normal”. You said “I’ve seen” while talking about what some of the girl’s teams do during off time at tournaments so I naturally assumed that you were speaking based on your own experience. Yes, you should have included Canada and even Mexico if you were speaking based on your knowledge on how North America handles volleyball rather than just the US. I was not necessarily referring to college and professional volleyball, but rather club when I asked that question. I did not once asked or have ever wondered why they added gender jokes to their video but instead, simply stated my opinion on the matter. Since your intention was not to debate or argue with me in any way, I truly believe your opinion and reply to my comment was unnecessary 😊
