1151 is an M2c class steam locomotive that was built in Roanoke, VA in 1911 for the Norfolk and Western Railway. This engine along with sister M2 class locomotive 1118 and 1134 were sent to scrap in the early 1950's and remained there until 2009. Part of the reason 1151 is missing so many parts has to do with the fact that presumably the engine was in the middle of an overhaul when the N&W sent it off to scrap. The likelihood that 1151 will ever run again is very slim, and not just because of the missing parts. The M2's were not popular locomotives with the crews that ran them in the early 20th century. They tended to be rough riding locomotives and had trouble keeping steam up with the relatively small fireboxes that they were built with. It wouldn't be impossible, but considering there already isn't much to work with and the amount of parts that are there would all need to be rebuilt, it would be much cheaper to restore one of the other steam locomotives in the collection over 1151.

@@doggerbendrailway6002 I don't disagree with your statement at all. However, there are a lot of factors as to why it's unlikely that 1151 won't get restored; especially not to service. 1) The museum does not have the money to restore the engine. This is something that most railroad museums have a problem with; just having the funds to maintain their collection is hard enough let alone return a steam locomotive to operation. 2) VMT doesn't have a shop to work on the engine. While they don't have to have one persay, it would be very helpful for them to have an enclosed environment to do the repairs for the engine given that it would be preferable to have a drop pit so that the wheels could be removed as they are locked in place. 3) The museum does not have enough trackage for this engine to run on. The cost of restoring the engine to operation would be one thing, but to operate it is another. If you have plenty of track (and I mean a lot of it), than restoration of an engine like this would be cost effect (as it gets anyway). Restoring an engine the size of 1151 to only operate on less than a mile of track doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If you have a shortline railroad nearby, than sure. Go ahead. 4) The engine just needs way too much work in general to be made presentable again, let alone return to operation. Is it possible? Sure it is. Is it likely to happen? Probably not. That's not so much being negative about it; it's just realistic and we all need to be that way about certain things. I want to see 1151 restored just as much as anyone else would, but the reality is that unless there is a serious amount of money thrown at the engine from a (or many) interested parties, she will stay where she is. Likely, that's pretty much it.

BARRY SCRAPYARD in South Wales had nearly 200 steamers from British Rail that were going to be scrapped around the 1970s. Yet the owner was a steam fan who kept the the steamers, but scrapped many freight waggons. Then in the 1979 when Britain was celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the ROCKET 0-2-2 and the Rainhill loco trials in 1829, built by the son and father team of Mr. George and Robert Stephenson, there was a massive wave of nostalgia and national pride, with many many heritage railways being started on the old abandoned lines that were cut in the 1960s Beeching era and ripped off to build new highways. But many of these heritage railways were barely a few miles long. And started with an old diesel shunter pulling brakevans. In America we would say a ALCO switcher and caboose. Yet many of those heritage lines wanted steamers, and started with tiny 0-4-0-Tanks , and 0-6-0 Tender engines. And moving up with more coaches. Soon they needed even larger and more Powerful locos that changed the heritage lines from only a weekend hobby, into a full time railroad!! And the larger locos were the 4-6-0 Ten wheelers named for Kings anD Castlesand Saints. And the 2-8-0 Consolidation of the W.D. Class built in the 1940s during WW2. BUT...Other museums were keeping their locos and not letting them go. So the newer lines went to BARRY to buy those steamers that had been sitting outside nearly 30 years and rusted full of holes like Swiss cheese. Then there were many years of fund raising, but before they could even start rebuilding. And getting replacement parts. And swapping pieces with another sister and donor loco. And fabricating complete new pieces like Boilers. Or cabs or tenders. Skillfully the Volunteers labored for years!! Until at last their loco is rebuilt. Sometimes up to 90% new, and retaining a few pieces like cylinders. And updating with new roller bearings. And Westinghouse air brakes to replace the older style vacuum brakes. Then there is much joy and celebration, when the old and rusty BARRY loco is newly rebuilt to highball the mainline at 60 mph. Once more. Also they have many 4-6-2 Pacific's that race at 70 mph. And on a test run the Streamlined A-4 RACED up to 92 M.P.H.!! And "TORNADO-60130" that set a speed record of 101+M.P.H. in the new Excursion Era of 2000s, and TORNADO was completely Scratch built using the original blueprints of the 1950s. Which would be the equivalent of the U.S.A. building the New 20th Century Limited J3A 4-6-4 HUDSON Streamliner of the ART DECO Era built by ALCO in 1938. and with new roller Bearings to allow speeds of 130+M.P.H.!!!!!!!! WOW 👌 👏 😍 👍 🥰 ☺!!!!! LET'S GO NEW STEAM!!!!! ALLELUIA!!!!! AMEN 🙏 🙏 🙏 GOD BLESS THE QUEEN 👸 🙏 🙌 ❤ AND TORONTO ✌ ❤ XXXXX ///, AND THE U.S.A!!!!! 2022A.D.

Old cars, trains, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, horse drawn carriages, tractors, literally anything you can imagine. I feel as though it would make a nice video. Might even have to make seperate parts to the video because of how much stuff there is there. I remember they even had (I believe it was) a real knights armor from around Italy somewhere. I think the plaque said it was looted by WW2 soldiers and brought back to America. Super cool stuff.

1) The diesel/electric locomotive you saw at 4:20 is actually a hybrid with two large diesel engines and two large electric engines. Burlington Northern Santa Fe still uses them as switch engines in yards and as tenders (in tandem with their much larger successors) 2) The 1952 Oren Fire Truck (1952) that you saw at 8:25 is almost identical to Macks of the same era. A firefighter showed me a picture of he and his buddies posing in front of a 1955 Mack. The picture was taken in 1985. I asked him if the Mack was still in service because of durability or cheapness by the city. He replied: "Both." 3) The American LaFrance series 1000 that you saw at 13:43-the series came into service about 1970. For over 130 years, American LaFrance was the foremost fire engine/fire truck producer in the country. They were a decade ahead of all the other companies and held patents on pump systems as well as ladder hydraulic/pneumatic systems. Two things doomed the company. First, failure to redesign when EMS became a thing in 1970 and the other a combination of a DOS based accounting system as well as overpaid union workers. The final truck rolled off the line in 2014.

4:20 is an EMD SDP45. Conrail 6670, former Erie Lackawanna 3639. This is the sole surviving example, BNSF never had any. SDP45s were literally just steam generator equipped variants of the SD45, they had the same 20-cylinder primemover and everything. What you describe almost sounds like the DDA40X, which only Union Pacific had. UP 6936 is/was the last operating example. or did you mean the one in the background at 4:27? that's a former Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac E8A. E8As were standard passenger locomotives, they're not hybrids, they just had two primemovers. BNSF has never owned E-units either

@@Panzer-535 BNSF actually had SDP40's, which were similar to the SDP45's, but with 16-cylinder engines instead of 20-cylinder engines. (Basically, they were SD40's with steam generators.) They were originally owned by BN predecessor Great Northern. GN did order 8 SDP45's, and Southern Pacific ordered 10. None of these survive today. The CR 6670/EL 3639 is not a true SDP45 - all 34 of the units that Erie Lackawanna ordered (3635-3668) did not come with steam generators. EL purchased them for their 5,000-gallon fuel tanks. Technically, they were SD45M's. This is the only surviving *ORIGINAL* SD45M - there is one other unit (3657) that was wrecked on EL and rebuilt with an SD45-2 long hood by EMD. That unit recently (2020) operated on the Cincinnati East Terminal Railway in southwest Ohio. I believe it's now operating in Washington State (somewhere around Walla Walla).

Would love to visit a museum like that absolutely would,,, just because it's expensive to repair those old engines don't mean it can't be done, best wishes from London UK 🇬🇧 .

This was so great to see all of these vehicles. So much fun. I think that first rusted out one was a steam 🚂 engine. I can imagine the absolute power it had going down the tracks. I would love to see it restored but probably won't happen. Thanks so much.

Always love seeing the old locos and steam trains. They are a reminders of what it was like to travel back in the old days. Would take lots of money to restore the old steam train but wow would be so good for all to see but the old fellows that used to drive and work on these trains are dying off and the knowledge is not being passed down to the next generations and unfortunately so this is why the trains remain waiting to be restored. We have trains like this in the museum the Hotham Valley trains here near Perth Western Australia and only those who are volunteers get to work on them but all takes money raised to be able to do this.
