Schofield was a hardened decorated soldier before the first scene. Blake asks him about The Somme, Thiepval specifically if I remember correctly. That's why he's so apprehensive at the beginning. "The last time we were told the Germans were gone it didn't end well."

Bäumer is the name of the main character in Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" and the only German with a name in this film.

My grandfather fought in WWI. He was poisoned by mustard gas by the Germans but survived. His voice was never the same though. He was in the cavalry in the Ardennes. During WWII he told my dad to go into the Navy. Thankfully, my dad was on the young side and the war was over before he got to see action. I saw this movie right before the pandemic started. It was amazing on the big screen. Good reaction.

I had an older relative who was gassed in the trenches as a doughboy. My mom (RIP) told me that she remembered he always had a constant cough. He passed away before I was born.

Watching military veterans react to war movies is a true learning experience! I appreciate your service but also your willingness to share your thoughts through these movies. Truly.

George MacKay is really an amazing actor in another movie. It’s a war romance and he plays a reluctant Nazi, who didn’t even want to fight or join the war, but was forced to by his father and it’s just his acting is everything.

My grandad fought at Ypres and the Somme. His three sons all fought, 30-some years later, in the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force - two survived. A year ago, I'd have said thank God we are past those times. Now I see men off to volunteer in the latest European war. Maybe we will never see an end to war, but we shall always remember - someday, we may learn the lessons of history?

My absolute favourite movie of the 2010 decade. Such a fucking masterpiece. Those final 30 minutes are just pure goosebumps.

The Germans dug in first on high ground. The British and allies were forced to dig in the low ground. Hence the waterlogged conditions

The first lieutenant you saw was Andrew Scott, who played Jim Moriarty in BBC’s Sherlock opposite Benedict Cumberbatch who starred as Sherlock Holmes. If you haven’t watched it, I highly advise it!

I’m not a war movie person but this and Dunkirk are two of my favourite films (also English Patient, which is a very different kind of war movie). I think part of the success of this film is that the person you think is the hero dies. Had he survived, it wouldn’t have been half as impactful. It feels much more authentic this way. Btw you asked about the bells in the tower. Clock tower bells chime automatically. We have them in all our churches here in England. No one needs to manually do it.

When I first saw this film, there was a scene where he was crossing a broken bridge, I was thinking that's probably not a good place to cross, would be a great place for a snipper and just as I said that a bullet just missed him, at that moment I knew that I’ve been watching far too many war films.

Have a look at a classic British war movie "Ice cold in Alex". If you want another WW1 move there's a great Australian movie called "Beneath Hill 60" about mining underneath the enemy trenches. BTW - Brit dog tags are circular.

German Trenches were better, according to the British General they thought that if the Trenches were too good it would soften up the British Soldiers . Yes it was a dog tag

for some other good WW1 movies and such Peter Jakson's "They Shall Not Grow Old" then both versions "All Quite on the Western Front" followed by Mel Gidson's (1981) " Gallipoli" & "The Lighthorsemen" just a few to start with

I really like small details of this movie. Like the only time we clearly see a German up close, it's just a boy who looks no older than Schofield.

This is so moving....My grandfather, and great uncle were in the first world war .. Grandfather from 1914-16 when he was mustard gassed. He survived, and lived to 84...he died in 1978 when I was 14. My great Uncle Ben was there from 1916 until the end in 1918...he lived until 1984, when I almost 20. He was 91.

Hey thanks for watching! I just want to point out that I'm not literally commenting every few seconds. It's about 115 minutes for the film that's been cut down and edited to about 45 minutes in this reaction. Everything is coming faster in this video, including anything I was saying.

Going black every few seconds is way more than necessary to meet your copyright obligations. Annoying as hell.
@Yeedeed
@Yeedeed 3 ай бұрын
I get that it is not ideal to use black screen, and since this video was made, I've been able to purchase some new equipment to do movie reactions differently, with no black screen. Instead of black screen, the screen is now blurred. However, I'm not sure if you've ever tried to upload movie footage, but yes, it is necessary to blacken/blur the screen every few seconds. If you don't, the video will be blocked. KZfaq will then show you the exact time in the video where the violation is. You're allowed either 4 or 5 consecutive seconds of visible footage of a film, depending on the movie studio who owns the film.

Buddy, you cut your scenes way too short, it ruined trying to watch. Maybe watch another reaction to see the actual length you can make the scenes would help. Had to stop watching unfortunately.

I'm sorry you didn't like it brother. 4.9 seconds is the max length uninterrupted, and yes, I do quite regularly (and consciously) cut shorter than that, so I get where you're coming from.
