Lovin the posts like this. Hard to imagine how these iconic rifles have been through some of the most chaotic campaigns in history.

At least you DONT call them "garbage rods", maybe one other rifle that could work under the conditions these sweet hearts had to endure , fine work.

Notwithstanding many amazing rifles; I find myself often drawn to the Nagant. I greatly appreciate the design, the maintenance kit and I love the older long-rifles.

That rifle must have a fascinating story behind it. Manufactured in 1919, it must have been capture by a White power during the Russian Civil War and later sold to Finland. It would likely be the only way it would have survived. Had it not been captured, it would have likely been melted down as the Soviets moved to the 91/30 in the 30's. What a rare gem you've got there.

A rare copy of a rifle. There's an inscription on it that shows all the difficult time in which it was released. "Izhevsk Armory Plant" and date 1919. But the inscription was already made in Soviet times, but the old transcription of the inscription of the symbols was used. And there are stamps of the old royal model. In the string where it is produced, this rifle is not just a weapon, but a symbol of the era. A silent witness to the tragic events of the fratricidal Civil War, where it was used by both warring parties, from the shores of the Baltic and Black Seas to the shores of the Japanese Sea. I have several such samples in my collection released at different times in both military and hunting versions produced for government hunting. As well as in the upgraded version, which was not put into production due to the high cost of conversion into a hunting shotgun of 28 caliber. After 1920, many worn-out rifles were converted for the civilian hunting arms market. Such alternating rifles were called "Frolovki" after an engineer who developed a fast and cheap technology for conversion into a hunting version. They were produced in several small colibers 32, 28 and in small quantities in 20 and 16 calibers. But not many of them were released because the barrel needed to be replaced. Both a store version and a single-charge version were produced. But there was another version of the proposals by the Russian theorist and specialist - gunsmith Markevich. He developed a carbine in the version of a rifled and smoothbore shotgun with a deep modernization of the mechanism for lifting cartridges in the magazine, the mechanism for feeding cartridges from the barrel channel, as well as additional spring guides were added to the smoothbore shotgun that exclude the hunting case from sticking into the chamber when feeding. In the literature, such a 4 charging (3+1) version is called VEM by the name of the patronymic and surname of the author (Markevich) But this version did not go into production due to the high cost of alteration. Although he in his version eliminated all issues related to the problems of the original version of Mosin. I also have this option with the designation 1925 in caliber 28. In appearance, it corresponds to the short KO - 38 carbine. Which he developed taking into account Markevich's version. By chance, my friend got it from the author's relatives. In poor condition. But he, as a restorer of the museum, restored it and later I re-registered it for myself. The alteration was carried out in Tula in three versions along the length of the barrel and was used in experimental shooting of cartridges equipped with a arrow-shaped bullet from a smooth barrel. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gL6VgNBzkrOmiYE.html
