Thanks so much for this lovely archive of Buster Keaton. I am obsessed with his work. He is like a god to me and we were so lucky to have him. I wish I could have lived back then for just that possibility of meeting the brilliant man himself.

He was my late father, one of the favourite actors: Those times! Film used to continue for days & months! As audio System was absent! The band seating in theatre, used to play music, according to scenes! I am watching him for the first time in my life! Thanks a lot!

Swinging that ball and chain is so funny and innovative. He was the first to do so many stunts and visual tricks.

He was the BEST ever,in physical comedy and was doing his own amazing real stunts and no one could match him in that.Jackie Chan was inspired by him.

I am not a big fan of silent stuff...but this is top class in dozens of ways

During the golf sequences, he's wearing a style of pants called Knickerbockers. They were loose fitting and cut off a little below the knee. They were typically used for playing sports; especially Golf. Just an interesting tidbit about that time.

I love how near the end he copied their old vaudeville routine from when he was a kid. It's also very fitting that the first convict to be hut by the ball on the rope is his father, Joe Keaton.

Thank You for posting this. I've been looking for it for awhile. In it, Buster Keaton re-create the ball routine stunt he perfected when he was a boy and working with his parents on the vaudeville stage. No film footage exists of their act which consisted of a table stunt and a ball stunt, much like is seen in this film. His father would be in the center of the stage proceeding to give a lecture on the proper way to bring up children while in the background, Buster would be misbehaving with a ball on a rope. He would swing it round and round until it finally wacked his dad upside the head. His dad would then chase him all around the stage and when he caught him, he would give little Buster a tussle. Its nice to get an idea of what their act used to look like way back when it was billed as ''The Roughest Act in Vaudeville'

Keaton never made a dull silent film (in my opinion). I´ve seen just about all the silents he appeared in, included the Roscoe Arbuckle ones...all pure genius. As for this being a bad print, there is ample technology today that can fix it to top quality. Just a matter of will. A late 1920s film with Mary Pickford, playing a Spanish lady, was in such a bad shape, many images were blurred or scarred and altogether a mess to look at. It was restored to HD quality, looking even better than when it was released. If i recall correctly, there is a better print of this in a DVD release of all the existing shorts Keaton made.

I was amazed after knowing that the stunts are real. Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Mr. Bean is the greatest comedy collaboration that never happened.

This movie is a brilliant metamorphosis between scenes.

The kings of comedy: Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, the Keystone Kops. Love it. Comedians nowadays can't even come close to this, and they think they have to use foul language to be funny.

Outside of Laurel and Hardy, I've never much bothered with silent movies. Keaton was one very fit man to have done those stunts. Much impressed.

But. the original ending is still missing unfortunately, in september of last year i came across a video of the film here on youtube,. it was uploaded from a foreign print. well anyway after buster is woken up from his girl sybil,he is escorted by her back to motorcycle with sidecar attached driven by his caddy and the scene fades.i wonder did this still missing ending closed with a classic keaton sight gag.

Watch at half the speed with your own music and it becomes 50 times better. There is in my opinion no excuse anymore for showing old films sped up like this. Was only done because it was once impossible to play it at the appropriate frame rate.

They should put some of these Buster Keaton silent films on the Fisher Price Movie Viewer.
