I will restore this rusty mechanical elephant bank made by Hubley. The mechanism is not working and it's missing a spring.
I started by dissasembling the bank. The parts were cleaned from old paint and rust with laser cleaner I loaned fron W2M laser, to learn more about that you can go to: w2m.fi/en/laser-cleaning/
The pieces inseide the bank were protected agains rusting with gun blue solution. Other pieces were painted.
I created a tool to easily make a new spring from piano wire with just a hand drill to replace the missing spring. I ended up using 0.5mm wire.
I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it. Thanks for watching!

I actually own this exact bank. It used to belong to my grandparents. It's at least 50 years old. The comments about the gray are spot on. It's actually a darker gray. In addition, the eyes are all black, not white with black pupils and on the feet, the toenails are painted black. This was a fun restoration to see. I've always wondered what it looked like inside after all the years of looking at it and using it.

As a miniature painter my only advice would be: use a bigger brush! Even if you need more precision, what you need as a good pointy brush tip, not a small brush. Also, using a bigger brush will make painting far easier as it can store more paint in the belly and create smoother strokes. Also, thinning paint (in this case enamel paints are thinned with mineral spirits IIRC) allows for it to flow more smoothly.

Cool bank. Would have loved to see the elephant keep it's original finish, and just revitalize the saddle/etc. The bright whitish grey color of the elephant takes away from the age of the piece, makes it look to "new".
