I don't know what he means by the 1930's being "horrible on innovation" in automotive history. Air conditioning, the automatic transmission, pop up headlights, the retractable hardtop, aerodynamics and other innovations come from the 1930's.

This video was very well done! Thank you for sharing. However, there was an owner that was not mentioned and in his memory, I’d like to share that Jerry Immersi of Cars for Films was an owner, he was my uncle and he supplied cars for movies and TVs shows for 50years and was one of the owners of the car and the one that actually provided it to the Tv show Boardwalk Empire. I had the good fortune to spend a lot of time around this car but more fortunate to have had the time with Jerry a self made business success.

fascinating presentation and wow what an amazing vehicle. I love these old cars and it was fun to learn more about this specific one as I'm also a fan of Boardwalk Empire. 👍

I remember my brother and I being given a ride in a Phantom I tourer, by Fred Jones of Farmington, CT. It was at Robertson Field, in Plainville, where our father & Mr. Jones were acquainted: we were fascinated by the Rolls, and Mr. Jones graciously gave us a ride. We later visited his collection; and my father bought a couple of his sculptures. There's a very nice Ghost that I have seen around Mystic, too...

This is the first Rolls Rocye Sprinfield built with right hand steering I've ever seen, and also good to see a very noble car without the typical US american whim,the whitewall tyres. compliment Sir for Your knowledge and the presentation of Your car which shows its age with grace and dignity!

1. Sir Henry Royce died on 22nd April 1933, not in 1934 as mentioned in the video 2. The change in colour of the badge from red to black did happen in the same year (1933) but it was not related to the death of Royce. It was related to changes in tastes and style, with customers tending to opt for more subtle colours on their cars in the early to mid-30s. In fact, Royce was even involved in the discussions to change the colour.

Aircraft were very primitive at that time. It's odd that Mr Rolls didn't die in a car accident. But, apparently the plane rolled him. Very Sad.

It's such a contrast - I just saw a video where a guy's grandfather born in 1920, got a ride in his grandson's 2017 Tesla Model S. I can understand why the grandfather was totally in awe.

Interesting that the Rolls Royce custom coach works badge is held on by what appears to be phillips head/slot screws. They must have been a later fit.

Brit here. All my DIY is to the Rolls-Royce standard. Totally over-engineered but if it's worth doing, then it's worth doing well. Only problem is, that takes time. I also employ Walt Disney's idiom, if your first (over-engineered) attempt isn't quite right, tweak until perfection...now our house is either over-engineered perfection or completely unfinished ideas.

Why does it have the grille of the Rolls Royce Twenty with the horizontal radiator slats ?
@hanky0958
@hanky0958 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's because the car has Hooper style coachwork which has horizontal grill slats
@rtman29
@rtman29 Жыл бұрын
@@hanky0958 Nothing to do with "Hooper style coachwork". Horizontal radiator slats on a Rolls-Royce were never 'dictated' by the coachbuilder or style of coachwork. Springfield Silver Ghosts built from 1922 to 1925, like this one - chassis #122JG - had horizontal radiator shutters/slats. Vertical slats were introduced in 1926, continuing on the Springfield Phantom I when the latter type was launched at Springfield in 1927 (ref. 'Rolls-Royce in America' by John Webb de Campi, 1975 edition, page 180). Derby (UK)-built Rolls-Royce 20 hp cars, introduced in 1922, had horizontal shutters. But contrary to popular belief not all 'Twenties' were so equipped. In September 1928, nearing the end of 20 hp production, commencing with the GFN chassis series, vertical shutters replaced the 'iconic' horizontal type (ref. 'The Rolls-Royce Twenty' by John M. Fasal, 1979 edition, page 87).

Well if you were to take a stroll around a UK RREC event you will also find that early British built Rolls Royce cars also sported horizontal barring to their radiator grills as well. So that would make your assertion as to this feature being a Springfield identifier as incorrect. Enjoy your day.
