The first Rolls-Royce Phantom IV built

Selection of clips of Home James! (23rd February 1999), first episode of Channel 4's Classic British Cars series. It is shown the first Phantom IV made, (chassis 4AF2, coachwork by H. J. Mulliner) commissioned in 1948 and delivered in 1950 to the then Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh.
I do not own the material, it is for nonprofit, educational purposes and only a small portion of the episode has been used. Qualifies for fair use under U.S. copyright law.

I understand that the driver's seat was adjustable in case the Duke wanted to drive it himself. In most cases limousines were not designed with the chauffeur's comfort in mind.

Has the first Phantom IV been converted to automatic transmission? I've heard at least one or two early Phantom IV cars were after leaving the factory. RR cars finished in 1953 or later all had automatic transmissions, didn't they?

ragemanchoo82 Nevermind, I see he opened the door there's no floor shifter -- it has the automatic the RRs of the 1950s had.

ragemanchoo82 It was converted to automatic in 1955. From 1954 all P. IV were fitted with automatic transmission as a standard. Its name was Hydramatic and RR acquired the license from General Motors.

GC Ah. I know the automatic transmission became standard with the 1953 model, but a number of people opted for manual. The wording in this video states the PIV was built in 1948, this is false.

+supernumery Any P. IV landaulette was delivered in 1948. The first P. IV, a limousine, was commissioned in 1948 and delivered to the couple in July 1950. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_Phantom_IV

+supernumery The information that from 1954 all had automatic transmission was taken from Martin Bennett's book "The Post-War Phantoms IV, V, VI", so I suppose it is correct.
