Still true 1 year later! I was watching another vintage KZfaqr today, and she said "blah blah blah was the style of underwear in the 1920s, then it changed to blah blah following that in the 1940s and 50s". I had to back up and replay it just to make sure I didn't miss the 30s, but she literally did not even say the number.

Madeleine Khan’s white dress from Paper Moon is on my make list. I have a couple reproduction patterns from McCalls from the late 20’s and early 30’s. From family photos, most of the women in my family wore simple shift dresses. I have one of a grandma with a shirt and blouse, at a funeral, I think. Maybe it goes under the radar because it was an austere time. Bonnie and Clyde and the Newton boys (family) were in the press and usually not in anything fancy. Even fancy was poor and folks like reminiscing about the stories. Then the war started and folks were just relieved it was over.

I agree. I love mid 30s day wear fashion in particular. Feminine, classic, practical...adorable. Its exciting to find others who gravitate to it as well. Looking forward to seeing more of your journey. Great video.

I found this video by searching for 1930s vintage style on KZfaq. I’ve always wanted to dress in 1930s fashion ever since I was a little girl watching Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie mysteries, film noir, early Hitchcock (The Lady Vanishes) and so forth. I got distracted by all the 1950s and 1940s fashion when I began diving into vintage, but now I realize that it has always been my love for 1930s style that has guided me. For instance, I love love love Naomi Watts’ wardrobe in Peter Jackson’s King Kong. I just love the ‘30s! Your outfit is so beautiful and you took my breath away.

This feels like when Karolina Zebrowska made a video asking why nobody is talking about 1930s shoes!

Hearing about the Great Depression as the first (and only?..) association with the 1930's was a bit unexpected. For me, as a Russian, the first associations were the Great Terror of 1937 and the general rise of totalitarianism, also reflected in fashion, not only in the USSR and Germany, but in other places too (sportswear!). Feels kind of relatable again...

i teach interior design history in a college program & i love going on about how the 1930s was when we first started to see the earliest versions of the fabrics we use every day start to develop. DuPont started investing in rayon & eventually lead to the discoveries of nylon & polyester .. I love looking at the 1930s era ads showing the new materials

Hear hear! I couldn't agree more! Thank you for starting your channel, this video just popped up in my feed. I scoured KZfaq a couple years back looking for a #costuber specialising in 1930s style, and yes, I could not find anyone at the time.

While sewing i watch KZfaq videos, mostly 1930s movies. There are great movies from the 30s on youtube. I sometimes stop the film to double check the dresses the women wear. There are great actors from that decade as well. Keep inspiring.

Wonderful video! I am recently really getting into 30's fashion. I was more into 50s housewife-ish style, with 40s style mixed in. But I am really loving the 30s vibe.

1930s was a beautiful expression of femininity and a learning experience of less is more … especially when compared to the early 1900s .

Thank you. I love this fashion era. I have a dress that my dad said reminded him of his mother. He was born in 1935.

Yes, give me the hats! It is sad we do not wear hats anymore. Men look so dapper in them. I love looking at pictures of my grandpa and his brothers back then. I've been styling my hair more 30s lately and it looks so nice no matter what I'm wearing. (Beautiful lamp and picture behind you. Is it a Kilmt print??)

I agree -- we should totally bring back the hats! And it is! I love Kilmt -- I got the print on All Posters years ago.

Yes! The 30s get so overlooked as a whole! I wish there were more reproduction 30s cloting out there too. I find that it is very close to the 40s, but there is something that 40s clothing misses that the 30s does just so well. my Favoite Batman is Batman the Animated Series because it it totally styled with the cues of the 1930s, and it is just so visually pleasing!

Thank you so much for this video. I always wondered why 1930s was popular in the US. I never thought about the Depression. I'm living in the UK now, and I think that the 1930s is slightly more popular here, but the 2nd World War had such a massive impact that it is still the winner. However, 1930s fashion is my favourite, so I'm not going to let that stop me. And there are so many delicious patterns available online that I can't resist it.

thank you for making the video. I am always wondering the same thing, why is no one talking about 30's fashion and why is it extremely hard to find reproduction 30's clothing when it is so adorable. So thanks for answering the question

I've come upon your channel as I was researching 30s fashion and what a delight! It's such a pleasure to finally see contents about this decade! I ended up watching all your videos and subscribing, I can't wait to see your sewing creations! I am a fellow seamstress too and have some 30s french patterns that I'm dying to try. It's always interesting to see the variations between american and french fashion. ^^

I'm missing 3 decades here ,, the 1930, 1980 and 1990. I did a lot of research for this but I can't find an answer especially in 1930. Do you have idea about this one? Like how to call their decade..
