Andrew King talks about a 1931 Great Lakes biplane that he is ferrying across the country. He started in California and made many stops before he arrived at the Deweydrome in Ohio. He does a walk around of the aircraft and at the end we have a little air to air. #aviationlovers #biplane #flying #greatlakes #aircraftpropulsionlectures

ANDREW seriously needs to host a podcast. Such a great voice. And would love to hear a show centered around vintage aircraft and the history of aviation, etc..

Andrew has had quite a bit written about his flying lately! I certainly wish I had my Great Lakes back. Thank you for taking the time to share and keep real flying alive.

I love the Great Lakes. I was fortunate to ferry a couple of new ones from the factory in Enid, OK in the '70's.

This Great Lakes was on the market recently on Barnstormers. I drooled over it because I have always hoped to own a Warner powered Great Lakes. I was never quite able to afford a Great Lakes but managed to own two nice Citabria airplanes plus six Cubs and a very nice Luscombe 8F. I also owned a flew a Spezio Tuholer and two Baby Ace airplanes. All this was back in the late 1970s and 1980s. I am 70 now. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

That is definitely a gorgeous aircraft for sure! Someone did an amazing job restoring it. Andrew is such a wealth of knowledge, I could listen to him all day talk about airplanes. If I don't see you before the Barnstorming Carnival I'll definitely see you there for sure. I'm glad to see you back on here. By the way great job on the edit. The music at the end was perfect. Thanks for sharing the videos and blue skies brother.

I'm still hoping to find an original Great Lakes like my grandfather had. It was black and orange with a Menasco engine and had a tail skid. He bought it new and flew it from his strip in Dyersville, Iowa. They might fly better with a radial but they looked better to me with the Menasco.

For the uninitiated, the engine baffles they are talking about are part of the NACA cowl on the airplane. That cowl revolutionized aviation in the 1930s and was still relatively new technology in 1931.

Me too, in Hayward CA early eighties. It still had the pilot to pilot Gosport tube communication in it. Felt like flying back in the early twenties ! Hard work on the arms, though, with four ailerons to wrestle with , after an hour.
