Mike, I agree that you should get the mechanics squared away first before modifying the body one main reason is because you need to see how the vehicle sits then the sculpture can begin. I've always done mechanics of the project first, in the event body or frame need adjustment for suspension or engine and tranny. And then I know I'm free to sculpture this body around everything thats been done. So I agree, run and drive first, then cosmetics. Thanks for all the detailed videos, I continue to learn even at my age. ( graduated 1985 )

I'm still building my first hotrod but I started with the chassis like you said and got it into a driver first. Now I can cruise around to cruise nights and show and shines and try and figure out what I want. It has changed multiple times in 2 years but it doesnt make sense to do the pretty stuff until the mechanical is 100%. It still has the original paint and patina and most people that see it say to keep it like it is and thats what I might do. Awesome project with the grill and an awesome result. Thanks for sharing. To start a project i like to get it running driving first . It makes the project fill like it is worth alot more makes you want to do your best while working on it. Then you can easily move it around to clean the shop .

Did one using round rod to frame the "new" grill, tight. Welded that to the nose piece. Then,welded the panels (like yours, but not as nice), in.Yours looks great, love it,,,Izzy,,,,

tHe best way to start a project is to first have or get a project . Then get it running and driving so you know what does or doesn't work. Then as you work on the project make sure to set a time goal every day to work on it. Don't take and look at the entire project break it into little projects. A win from any of the projects keeps you going. Always make sure to bag your hardware and, store it all together. If you lower it then lower it and drive it if you can. Find out if each step keeps working then onto the next project and the next .... make sure there are goals and do your best to finish each goal ! In no time you will see it build into your dreams.

I love watching you work. You are a true craftsman. I would love to see a video of you molding in the rear fenders on a fat gendered ford or Merc. I’ve learned a lot just from watching your videos.

Idea / vision of finished project, Mechanical stuff, Frame suspension Cosmetic/ body Interior, There is always a little jumping ahead and going back and the original vision always evolves.

Customize first vs make it run first: I've been chasing both at the same time on my ride for around 12 years. But out of necessity. I got it as a daily driver, so I've been needing to do "running" repairs as things crap out. But then... I'll work on customizing it any chance I get. I'm hoping to get to finish it before the next season, but we'll just have to see how the winter goes. It'll be a one of a kind 1960 ford falcon for sure!

Every classic or older car truck I got the breaks came first. My Pop's and older brother are mechanics, they told me I have to be able to stop before I can go. Your right I did all the mechanical work first then making it look cool came after. My very first build was my Pop's parts car I bought off him for $50.00 what he paid for it a 1968 4 door Toyota corona made it into a Kustom. Late 80s early 90s $1.10 A gallon of gas it was the mini truck era I wanted my little car to look older than it was modified a 1951 Buick grill and added 4 bumber guards from an older BMW on the grill to give it that 50 Buick grill look lower in the front smoked glass window's 3 prong knock offs white wall tires. Got many thumbs up everywhere I went. I would drive a brand new car that wasn't mine, nothing people wouldn't even bat an eye compared to my old car's.

Best way to start a project car, get it running. Get all the electrical, brakes, engine, suspension, transmission and rear diff all done first. Nothing worse than having a project car you can't drive cause you did the body and paint but not the mechanics and you miss all the car shows. Wish I would have done that when I started my 65 Impala project. Lessons learned.
