@michael mccann ... Kinda crazy, so much radioactive material, for such a short period of useful functionality. A mere 1,600 years for its half-life, but barely half the usage life of a tritium based illumination. One has a short half-life that limits it usage period, the other can't last even half that time due to the decomposition of the zinc matrix it's bounded with; but then thousands of years of radiation still left.

This is my favorite watch channel because Nekkid Watchmaker takes it to another level. Not just humor but you make everything look so easy. No long dry commentry, no elitism just a good lad doing extraordinary job, repairing watches, giving them second or third chance. I hope you and your family are doing good and that we'll see so many more videos from you in the future.

More men like this one is what this world needs. There used to be more, before we decided that money was the most important thing. How foolish we were. Past generations learned that lesson for us, but we didn’t take heed. Now, we are seeing the results, but it isn’t over yet. We still have a long road to travel. I am sad about leaving this broken mess for the next generation. But my travels are almost over now, so I do my best to advise my family and friends. I listen to the old radio programs fro the late ‘40’s and ‘50’s to keep my spirits up. I can hear a maturity and optimism in their voices. It is unmistakable, like a Southern accent. I am reminded of what we once were and could be again. Or should I say, will be again.

As a child, in the 1950's, I used to watch my Father strip down, clean and re-assemble time pieces for friends and relatives. I wouldn't talk, move or twitch, I was fascinated by what he was doing. I imagine you sitting there with a Jewellers glass, as you do this. My Dad never explained what he was doing, all I knew was that my Dad was a magician who gave people back what they needed. You speak about different oils and lubricants and cleaning methods. My Dad had lighter fluid for cleaning and 3In1 Oil for a lubricant. I now wish that I'd asked questions and asked him what he was doing and to teach me what he was doing. Hindsight gives you 20/20 vision. Carry on with what you're doing, I've shed a little tear for missed opportunities, but I really enjoy your professionalism and obvious love for your calling. More power to you and long may you continue.

@@NekkidWatchmaker Beautiful job. Just to let you know that a manicurist file/sanding block will shape itself to what needs to be filed. Its a small rectangular sponge block with 4 different file grits on each side. Much easier to use than a nail file with a much smoother grit to remove scratches. It also has a 90 degree angle with grit on both sides for corners. I was expecting to hear a southern Mississippi accent because of the name of your channel. 'Nekkid' is how we pronounce 'naked', here. I was pleasantly surprised by your beautiful accent and subtle jokes..

Very adventurous with the nickel plating so well done, the key with good bright nickel electroplating ( you can do semi-bright plating as well) is agitation best done with air to avoid burning caused by depletion of chemicals near the surface of the work. Also nickel plating is normally done at about 60C so you normally need a glass beaker on a hot plate. Generally nickel electroplated at less than 50C will be dull. The easiest solution is to use an electroless plating solution but you need to heat this to 60C and stir it, this does not require anodes or electric current and can give very nice results all over the work.

You are truly a Watch Surgeon! And BTW, this video, as seen by me, was not long. Actually, the time flew by quickly! Many thanks for the genuine work you do and your gracious words spoken!

I think that is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. What makes your videos really special is your voice-over. I enjoy the bed-time nature of what is more of a storyline than something purely technical and I love the technical info you mix in with the story. There is more to visualization than good camera work. I feel like I'm seeing a far broader image due to the quality of your voice and writing. Keep up the good work.

Total support for going with the nickel look, instead of gold. Good call. I trust the new owner also loved the contrast of an austere exterior and the warmth of the face.

This was such a spectacular restoration. You say it’s not “concourse” quality, but I think you struck a magical balance between restoring the watch to how it would’ve looked when it was new, whilst preserving its 80 years of heritage, history, patina and spirit. I wonder what it’s now worth afterward being restored?

I ran across one of your videos by complete happen stance a couple of weeks back and have been down the rabbit hold ever since. After working for the government for many years, I am looking at retirement and a second act to keep me out of trouble, a must since I am unsupervised (meaning unmarried). Years ago a friend (engineer) turned me onto watches as beautiful pieces of engineering art. I have collected and cared for a few of my own now but never considered working on or restoring them. I absolutely love your detail and running commentary and humor. I can't get enough. I am looking into timepiece repair/restoration classes even now. Thank you for sharing.
