1943 VW Type 82 Kubelwagen goes to auction
I'm an auctionzip.com frequent flyer! When we go on vacation (even just camping in a nearby town) I check the local auctions within a 50 mile radius...I saw this was up the same weekend of the Fun Fest VW (funfestacvw.com ) show and knew I would NEVER have the opportunity to bid or even see one of these in person again unless is was at a museum of something of the like, so I just HAD to go...incredible nearly all complete specimen, was only missing a few things that I saw...such an amazing vehicle

Marci, Thank you for taking the time to video and share this. The only way that you can determine true value of a vehicle like this is to lay your own eyes on it and witness the bidding yourself. I think that was pretty spot on around 20k, but would have loved to inspect the metal/hand turn that engine to see what one would be up against. Would love to hear your thoughts on restore vs refurbish.

The awesome thing is we likely will get to see this one again! Long story for a comment but short of it is, I know the guy who got it up and running/driving for the guy who bought it and I offered to do the top for free to just have the chance to work on it and see it again! He went with a mechanical restoration and man you should see the thing now! Incredible transformation! It is road worthy and it went to the right guy! Hopefully in the not too distant future I’ll get the chance to see it again!

in this condition, ca. 45000 EURO in Germany. Paperwork isnt an Problem, send VW Wolfsburg historische Abteilung the id number, they are all listed, so they send you an Paper back with the car identification when build to witch Delevery Point it goes ( 5 avable ) than you can write an Letter to the Kraftfahrt Bundesamt and send in the VW papers so you got an original german title witch you can use in the US. all this costs 200 Euro all together. Greetings from Germany

100Jeanluc haha yes, it was partly slow because they had several folks bidding online, so they were dragging it out to allow those people to bid I think. Very very glad I went and got to see it tho! Believe they were straight up VW, vw started production before 43, firsts being in late 30’s 37? I believe...all of the engine parts and dash gauges etc are stamped vw with the gear cog stamp so those were vw exclusive that stamp faded after the war to become the circle around the vw emblem as we know it now. I know where this vehicle went and I might be the one rebuilding the top canvas and seats for it so we might get to see it again!

20k was a bargain. They’re not making any more of them you know. Proper restoration they are over 100k But for 20k, you could do a make over, wiring, brakes. Take the crash box out, install a modern swing axle and single port.....do a kaki paint job, a new canvas top and some reasonable seat pads.....for a few grand.....and drive it. Save all the old stuff that came out of it. You would easily be able to sell the car and get your $$$ back. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.....I personally don’t have $$$ for this stuff. Still, I didn’t have money for the nice kubles and schwimmers....when you had to read classifieds and they were an astounding 5 k!! Anyway...cool video
@marcijunebug
@marcijunebug 5 жыл бұрын
Daniel Allen agreed! If it had a title or import papers I think would have easily brought $30,000...it was in incredible condition with only minor rust in pans, and pretty much totally complete (there were two boxes of parts in the back seat and floor boards that you can see in video). I figure $5k in title fees etc and tires and maybe $1-2k more for making it “road worthy” and it’s a driver, wouldn’t do a thing to it! Very very cool vehicle!
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 4 жыл бұрын
I would have bought it for that but I just dont have a place to put it. No title is not an issue if it is old. all you need to do here in CA state that it is older than 75 then they will send you one in the mail. No emissions required on classics. My buddys have gotten stuff from mexico the same way. Just apply for lost title and it is back in the system. Buddy did a barn door bus like that. He put his plates from his 66 on it and drove it across the boarder. then titled it here after no issue.
@marcijunebug
@marcijunebug 4 жыл бұрын
Not that easy in Indiana...can be done but you have to go to court and post in news paper yadda yadda takes a long time and about $3k (If no one fights you on it) the guy that bought it has done it before and he knows the drill! Glad he got it, because I will be seeing more of it! I’m might even get to build him a top for it! Such a cool truck and totally worth the price!

@@marcijunebug geez I would title it in CA first cost about 150 then transfer it to your state would be easier. and cheaper. OR AZ. not sure on their total policies on that but I dont think it is that hard do an out of state transfer which should be easy then your done.

@marcijunebug
@marcijunebug Жыл бұрын
Have you seen lots and lots of them???? where??? I want to go see them! I LOVE them!!! I think given the rarity of the vehicle in this area of the country/world I gave much of that a pass, but honestly thought it was in relatively decent condition. I didn't see any full "replacement panels" but there were some patches that had been made, and those could have been done a bit better but perhaps they were performed when the vehicle was in service and thus wouldn't have been done at their "finest body shops" while in the field?... I would totally have bought it if I'd had the extra cash...and I have seen it in person now that it is back on the road here in Indiana...and it is EPIC...I doubt I will ever see another one in it's current, running diving and showing up at car shows condition in my lifetime!
