Identifying this as the driver’s (or passenger’s) side of the vehicle could be useful to make sure the drift pin is facing tha correct way to direct the nut to the back side of the axle. My 1948 1-ton, has “knuckle stop" on the back of the axle on each side, that the son also goes through, and then the washer and nut, all facing to the rear.

Your video was great. Unfortunately the lock pin ( bolt) won’t go thru the hole. I’m tired of hammering! Any suggestions? Thanks.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV 4 жыл бұрын
We have to assume that your kingpin shaft is not lined up properly for the lockpin to go thru. Either that or you are trying to put the lockpin in backwards? It's tapperd and can only go in one direction.

At the 4.50 point of the video, a spacer is added on top of the flat bearing. Correct me if I’m wrong. That spacer is required for the 1st gen trucks and not needed for the 2nd gen chev trucks.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, depending on the Kingpin style your truck uses, there may or may not be shims to adjust the freeplay.

Mr. Welch, I really have a naggin question. I have a 1959 Chevy Apache I want to use as a driver. QUESTION: Should I graft in a 75 Camaro front clip or just upgrade the original front end. I have been told that with all the upgrades, grafting is starting to decline. Just wondering your thoughts. TY

this was awesome and quick essentials of kingpins .. So I'm restoring a 91 Econoline and had a replacement kit that had nylon bushings so I don't have to ream for now... managed to get my cross pin out and the zerk nuts off def had plenty of grease. was frozen at first and had to use a hammer but after sitting in the sun they can move by hand.. no matter how hard I hammered with a punch I couldn't get them out and was worried about damaging threads. I noticed the ones in it have brass bushings and when I checked the other side with the wheel still on theres no play whatsoever... So I guess the question is .. If pins are that difficult to remove (despite no play anyway ) its probably a sign that they are perfectly good right? lol I just like to be pro - active and hopefully the bearings dont crap out of nowhere.

Hello, I have the 47-54 Chevy/GMC 3" dropped axle that came on a project truck I bought, but it did not come with spindles and I do not have stock ones for the axle. So my question is will 1940 truck spindles work on this axle?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV 2 жыл бұрын
No, they are different on the 1940. You'll have to find some 47-54 spindles in order to use that axle.

U shouldn't lube you're axe eye. U could end up with a loose k.p in the axle. And then you'll need a new axle ore a over seize k.p

It can work, but your shims will be slightly different. A lot of people buy the 55-59 style as a way to upgrade the earlier type. You'll be fine.

I ordered a 1 ton kit but the bushings are slightly undersized about 4 one-hundredths and need to be reamed. I called today to ask the question and am waiting to hear back. I agree, this is extremely confusing and contradicting from what BROTHERS tells you below.
