There are so many water power dam lakes that can be easily covered. And the electrical distribution is already " on site".

"move them during the storms", interesting idea for sure as long as they take into account the hit for days+ as they take these off the grid.

The ocean solar might also be a good fit with desalination plants on the shore.

I think pairing it with the cloud making system is also a great fit. I know there are downsides but if it was done in or near the ocean it might avoid some of the potential downsides

I think the float solar combined with wave motors or the off shore wind or all at once is a great solution for a future alternate power plant.

Maybe glass prefabricated components could be borrowed from the commercial building sector to service the domestic housing sector to reduce workforce demand. Not sold on offshore solar but hydro solar from lakes, hydro power lakes & reservoirs in water-scarce regions sounds great.

To keep the growth from starting on the floating solar panels could you use like ceramic wax and make it so slick that nothing can stick to it

You can be very proud Sean 🥳🥳. Your pronunciation of the name Frans van Kralingen was spot on. Do you have Dutch ancesters? 🤣🤣

Given hurricane season starts getting worse from August into September it might make sense in places where it starts to cool off in September so when they take them off line they're not losing it when its needed most. It likely won't make sense in the south as September is still hot and getting hotter.

Great discussion. I think there will need to be some minor regulations on the city/municipal level that bans solar panels being accepted as garbage/landfill. In Vancouver that already happens with some products. It creates a need for “what do we do with these things”. The answer, of course is recycle.

Co2 credits have massive flaws the industry needs regulation and verification. Currently most co2 credit companies dont actually help the environment or the climate.

Perhaps the downsizing of employment > UPsizing employee skills and impact per employee. Similar to upcycling rather than recycling doesn't destroy the manufacturing industry, it just makes a few lives better.

It appears the fears of Ai and Efficiency may lead to less lower paying jobs at minimum wage whereas there are way more delivery jobs, increased manufacturing systems and robotics jobs, more engineering jobs, etc.

I agree that the strength of solar is that it can be produced locally. But that is also the reason petroleum companies hate it so much. They no longer will have a monopoly on the production of power.

Talking about producing power as close to the use of it reminded me of a hot water heater/generator in one from Enginuity Power Systems. Since it still uses gas, it’s not carbon free but if it does reduce transmission losses, it may be a good balance, especially as a backup to solar/wind/battery. Have you heard of this company before?

I think the floating panels idea works much better on (fresh) water storages whete there is much less damger of damage in bad weather and, of course much less danger of corrosion. Also, good coverage of the surface would help reduce evaporation of the water.

What we should be doing is charging polluters a 'carbon tax'. Then companies or individuals genuinely removing CO² from the atmosphere can cash in on those tax credits as a source of income.

A really good episode, but it was surprising and disappointing to me to hear it start off with a drastic misunderstanding of the housing market. Far from an overbuilding problem, we have a severe shortage, especially in high demand cities like LA, NYC, San Francisco, or Seattle. This is particularly surprising to me since Sean lives in NY, where shortage of housing is a primary driver of higher rents.

I saw a headline the other day where they want to pay people to convert garages to living areas to alleviate the housing demand.

I don't know about your area housing problems but the video clearly talked about specific areas of over building such as Reno and they commented that it did not apply to the whole country. Matt also replied about the trouble he had get his house built due to lack of skilled workers. So I don't see where you think they misunderstood to housing situation in this.
