Hello lovelies, since the 1950s is one of my favorite decades I wanted to share with you some of my favorite 1950s beauty products that you can still buy today. In the 1950s, women perfectly matched their lipstick and eyeshadow to her clothing and accessories as well as home decor. In the 1950s face, powder and foundation was a shade darker than the natural skin tone and had a pinkish hue to it. Blush was a light pink color to compliment the pink skin tone. Eyeliner was done along the top eyelid in a cat-eye and usually had matching cake mascara. Popular lipstick products in the 1950s were red, pinks, coral, and orange tints in a matte finish. One shade is lighter for day wear and darker for the evening.

The 1950's were my time. I graduated High School in Summer of '56. All the brands you show here were a part of my beauty regimen at various times. I loved the Revlon lipsticks! The colours were wonderful and they were long lasting. Max Factor's "Pan Stick" was nice, too. I also used Maybelline Cake Mascara. The make-up back in those days was much less complicated. I really enjoy your channel; thank you! 🤗😘

I was born in 1950! During my childhood my Mother wore "Tange" lipstick (vintage available from Old Vermont Store) and Coty Airspun Face powder & tiny bits of cream rouge (don't know brand) She had Coty Emerude in a little Black Bottle that had a "dobber" attached to the inside of the cap & she'd open the bottle & apply at tiny bit to the back of her neck behind her ears! It was a thin cream texture & it lasted all day! In the winter time she had a coat with a huge Silver Fox collar on it & after we got to church & got ready to sit down in our pew, she'd take her coat off & drape it nicely over the back of the pew! Of course I acted like I was cold as soon as the Sermon started so I could cuddle up in her coat and pet the fur! She said I was going to wear out the fur, but it never did! I still remember the smell of her perfume on the fur of that coat! 🥰 Later, in the 60s we used mostly Maybelline, cake Mascara & that awful stick eye shadow in Turquoise!!! We also used the New Clairol "Summer Blonde" on our already Blonde Hair for that "Beach Girl" look! Of course we all layed out by the pool & tanned but used Coppertone Sun Tan Lotion! Hope you enjoyed my Memories! It's fun for me to share with you! Thanks!🤗❤️

I enjoyed listening to your memories, they reminded me of memories from my past also . Remember my mom having "Tange " lipstick , the smell of the Coty Powder, my aunt introduced me to Emeraude perfume we'll not really, I would always be so nosy going through her vanity and come across all these beautiful treasures. My mom had a bottle of Coppertone , loved opening the cap and getting a whiff of that suntan lotion . To this day still love Emeraude perfume , I don't know why but it does remind me of Christmas time . Thanks for sharing those lovely memories, wish we could just open up a drawer and see all the beauty products, perfumes, & powders of the past .

I was born in 1957; my mom was not quite 20. I remember seeing her Maybelline cake mascara in the medicine cabinet, in the little red box with tiny brush. She wore red lipsticks, too, but no foundation or blush. I also remember her sometimes wearing "Evening in Paris" perfume; you could get it at the "dime store" (McCrory's) or Woolworth's. You can still buy it, but the price is outrageous. I remember Mom putting on white cotton gloves so she could put on her nylon stockings and attach them to her girdle. In my teens I had oily skin, so foundation was a problem -- until I found Max Factor Pancake. I used a lot of water, so it looked like I had matte skin! I loved that stuff, and used it for years.

I love Stormy Pink!! The U.S. still has it in the main display. I remember moon drops, it used to come in a green container and had a clear center to the lipstick. I remember my mom using cake mascara- it was Maybelline, and the case was exactly like max factor, but it was red.

So facinating, I'd ware stormy pink everyday! Such a nice soft, wearable color. I love learning about the history of these things. What blows me away (and I'm surprised you didn't mention it) is how long coty airspun has been around and has been the same, I'd use it if it wasn't for the strong scent.

I can't remember what else my grandmother used but she always had Estee Lauder cream blush (sorry, "rouge") and lipstick in really heavy gold packaging. And she always wore Guerlain Shalimar. It's a scent that fragrance-heads always recommend as a classic to have but to me it has too many memories and smells "old."

Laura, I absolutely love your channel! As a 20 year owner of a Midcentury/Vintage store, vintage beauty and hair products are one of my little obsessions.Yesterday, I ordered Max Factor Panstick and Coty Airspun powder that I wore as a teen in the 70’s to try again. Two documentaries you may want to recommend to your viewers is “Beauty in a Jar” and “Two Dollars and a Dream” . Have you seen them? Both are on KZfaq, and both are most excellent! Also, if you have some other beauty documentaries focusing on beauty of days gone by that would be of interest to recommend to us, please do. Thanks for your passion, Luvie!

I didn't know that you could still get the Ponds face powder, thanks for the info...I bought from Etsy.com a vintage face powder by Ponds called "Dream flower powder" in Camellia color. I think it's from the late 1950s early 1960s...but I won't risk using it since I bought it for its vintage state. It still has a perfume scent to it,doesn't look like the powder has been used.

My mom used the Moon Drops lipsticks, and the face lotion called Moon Drops. She was very into make ups, and yet strangely pretty much forbid me the use of it until I was out of high school. Once I was in uni I could use it. But not before. Consequently, I didn't fit in very well with the girls in high school. But once I got into uni, I could do what I liked.

I would have been sitting at the computer for your and hours if we had that invention for personal use then. I'm not seeing the books you showed listed in the information section. Would it be possible to list them? I would appreciate it so much.

store your powder puff upside down...fluffy side up...in the case. That way the pressed powder doesn't absorb any skin oil on the puff. You powder will stay fresher longer. One of the first things a makeup artist taught me.

I really love your channel. I adore vintage beauty and fashion. People actually had less things back then but they were higher quality and lasted forever. Skin care has really come along but the packaging is crap. Even 32$ dollar lipsticks are in plastic tubes. I think women should start demanding better quality for our dollars.
