1954 Jaguar XK120 Garage Find. 1st time driving since 1972.

This super cool 1954 Jaguar XK120 was rallied around Los Angeles by a lady named Adele in the 1960's. She broke down on a drive and parked it in 1972, where it sat until I got ahold of it and started sympathetically restoring everything.

Amazing & this very beautiful-looking car has lain for so long in a garage since 1972. And was restored and given a new lease of life.

The car looks great! You made the right decision in restoring it "sympathetically." How did you get the tonneau to fit so tight? Is the material just stretched that tight, or is there some sort of framing in or under the tonneau?

Thank you! The tonneau just stretched nicely like it wanted to be there (almost too tight). I only had the zipper re-done.

What did the vehicle cost to buy, how much did it cost to service and repair it, and what is the vehicle worth today?

@@paulmarriner5906 Not necessarily. In Australia, where I am, you would probably pay between $20,000. ( If you're lucky) towards $40,000 for the vehicle ( unlucky) as recovered from the old garage. Then spend $80-100,000 reconditioning the vehicle, so it has cost towards $140,000 so far. I suggest it would then be worth $180-190,000 to buy outright , that's IF the owner would sell it, which I doubt. A drop-top XK120, with factory Left Hand drive? I doubt if ANYONE would sell a vehicle like that.

Hahahah. It’s ok. Roughly $30kUSD to buy, $30k to bring it back (plus a incomprehensible amount of time and effort) and it’s worth whatever someone will pay for it. Not a great money maker but an amazing experience.

That’s how I got mine. We got it running over a couple months, left the faded paint , and drive it hard and fast. 😊 70’s shag carpet! Next to a restored 120 at a recent car show, everyone came over to see the “Driver “
