It's a Giannecchini Farms Truck from Linden California...Frank Giannecchini was a grower, packer, and shipper of vegetables and fruits. If it's 50 years old, most likely hauling tomatoes, cucumbers, and cherries from the fields to packing sheds or the cannery. The cucumbers were all for pickles and pickle products. Could be I rode in that truck when I was kid as I spent a lot of time on some of the ranches. You could always recognize that Giannecchini yellow color and immediately knew whos truck it was. They had quite a few of these....glad to see that at least one of them made it!!

There is still one more alive and still in Linden with a bigger engine
@joe590473 жыл бұрын
Jack Colombini So is the trick that you used to drive? Or did you keep the other one with the bigger engine? And I know you used to drive for GF because I remember riding with you hauling cucumbers. That was a long time ago. Anyhow, I’ll bet you laughed like I did when you saw this video for the first time.... made me wonder how that truck got to the Midwest. And this M.molini .

Drop a CPL 217 with a RT915 and a pair of SQHDs hangin' off o' walking beams and put it back out on the road. dahn 'ere 'n 'at. I'll bet Mark has an old Fruehauf tub sittin' around somewhere. That sure would turn some heads out on 79.

I’m from the Central Valley I showed this video to my dad cause he used to work for them and he said he drove this truck. Says if it’s a 4 on 4 the boss kid used to drive it and the called it baby 😂 They had two of them one had a 4 on 4 and the other had a 4 on 3 and they had Cummins 335 😆
@Paracuarogto1Ай бұрын
Your right they did call it baby, I worked for frank until he retired, the twin of this one had a newer motor put in with a 13 speed, I drove it all the time, I have pictures with it, this one last ran when parked in 1988, I took parts of it for the other one,..

That’s the truck I learned from. In Linden California I hauled tomatoes and cucumbers dry beans and sugar beets with it . The Transmission is a 4and 3. And I still live in Linden and we still have the mate to it. The truck belonged to Giannecchini Farms. It was sold at auction. The last load it hauled was in the 90’s.
@frankbroker36983 жыл бұрын
I freeze framed and copied the name. I used to see those trucks all the time in the Stockton, CA area when I delivered groceries in the 1970's. Distinctive logo. I did a little "googling" and the business still has a phone number and listing with the Linden growers. Pretty interesting that it wound up so far away from home!

That truck belonged to Giannecchini Farms LLC in the NorCal valley Linden California they owned and currently still do own cherry orchards in Linden , I worked for a fuel injection shop in Stockton Ca and used to do a lot of business with GF I’m sure they would be happy to see one of their work horses running again. They have donated many pieces of equipment to the San Joaquin historical museum to tell the story of crops and vegetable history in the Ca valley.

Nice to see someone taking the time for a restoration, Linden is not too far from Modesto Ca in the SanJoaquin Valley, GF on the door is most likely from the General Foods company that owned or started Kraft foods, GF was founded back in the late 1890s I think. They founded post cereals and Postum coffee which I used to drink in my young days. Looks, good guys.

Those old Cummins engines were made to start by first using the compression release to get both oil pressure and engine momentum before starting. It is really good to hear an old 200/250. But you guys should check in with the old guys who have experience with these old beasts. Most likely a shift pattern is located above the windshield on the drivers side.
@desertbob68354 жыл бұрын
Grillo Farms, Linden. That's a produce hauler, LWB so the load would cantilever on the 5th wheel to keep the single trailer axle's weight within the law at that time. NH-200 baby Cummins, could be a Spicer SynchroMaster 12 behind it. I put A LOT of miles on baby Cumminses with that Spicer back in my youth out of San Bernardino...smoky ol' buggars.

Very cool guys. You guys actually did it right by taking the valve cover off pump and oil through the motor and stuff like that. A lot of these guys just go out and start it without even checking to see if there's rats nest in the intake or anything like that. That guy that's the mechanic that's helping you is pretty smart.

say you guys, i have a few old "motor" manuals for trucks of this era. it might help with part numbers and decyphering the casting numbers and offer exploded drawings on most of your components. torque specs, etc. they're THICK like dictionaries. I kept them because i've always wanted to have a b-61 Mack, but I doubt it's ever going to happen. They might as well do something other than collect dust. Just pay postage. Congrats on getting her going. Ever since "Duel" I've had a place in my heart for needle nose Petes. God bless!

That's a an early 220 cummins it has a tapered crank and no piston oilers. and a back drop manifold. those old naturally aspirated engines would throw a flame out the top of the pipe if they were turned up at all. That truck was originally a 3 axle you can tell because of the aluminum frame and the lack of a tractor taper where it was cut in the rear. for oil filters it would have the cartridge on the right side of the engine, should have a sock in the pan ( has an 8 bolt plate and a screen that rolls up) and it also used to have a superfine on the driver side (which is missing). Those front spring hangers DO NOT interchange with the 359. If you are going to just drive the truck for shows and a stroll around town you can reconstruct the broken piece but if you are thing of working it you will want to change the hanger. Good luck with your project

You should check the serial number on the engine because it does not look like the original engine. I used to put smoke kits on them in the 70s , that would be a new exhaust man. and a turbo. It did not increase the horse power but cleaned up the exhaust. I think it looks like an NT-250.

Ive run Cummins engines in most of my trucks ( 5.9 12 Valve, Big Cam 4 400hp and a couple of N14s ) and those engines were just built to survive. As long as there is enough compression and all the other elements are kinda good they'll usually light off even after sitting for decades.
@JD-tl7ld4 жыл бұрын
Damn, that was a nail biter. I am shocked that something that sat for so long, could be brought back to life without a major engine tear down, and rebuild. I look forward to seeing the old girl take her maiden voyage in the 21st century.
@thekingsservant11044 жыл бұрын
Lol.....they built things to last back then
@pdfogle05294 жыл бұрын
As long as the engine turns over freely and will build oil pressure, most will run just fine. Some times it takes a bit for the rings to break free and the compression to come up, but if it has decent oil pressure, and it doesn't smoke like hell, it's good to run for a while.
@octane6134 жыл бұрын
Hey just because she's running and building oil pressure doesn't mean old girl doesn't need a rebuild.
