1955 Buick Nailhead overheating problems? Thermostat, Radiator, or water pump... Whats the solution?

1955 Buick Roadmaster Sedan all original survivor with a 322ci Nailhead V8. The numbers matching original thermostat stuck... Car was running hot in the last video and I'm hoping this thermostat was to blame! Finally got the housing off and pulled the nasty old thermostat out. Pulled the radiator and flushed everything really well with the water hose. Can yall believe that Orielly Autoparts had the thermostat housing gasket in stock for a Buick Nailhead V8? Got her back together and fired up! Took the "Outlaw" for a spin around the neighborhood, she still got a little warm but not nearly as hot as before. Going to order a Chinesium Ebay aluminum radiator for the car and fix it so there's no worries. I couldn't help myself and had to spray paint the air cleaner with some VHT Gold engine enamel to give it that 70s Moroso look.

Thank you! I really don’t want to I’m selling a couple GTOs today so I might not need to sell the Buick. I priced it kinda high that way it’s a good reason if it sells

That buick is so close to being a solid cruiser, and damn that was alot of crud on the t-stat. Hopefully, the water pump gets the temps in check. Good on you for making a push to ditch the weekly 40hr grind. Hoping to one day do the same.

So close and I love this thing! It’s really turning into a killer ride! I did some research online and ended up ordering a rad instead of a water pump. Haven’t had a chance to install it yet. I appreciate it’s going to be a lot of work and we are going to have to make some sacrifices on some of the toys but not all. It’s worth it I think…. Just wish I had started down that path 10 years ago

I sprayed oven cleaner in a old radiator but it flat on the ground filled it full of water let it set n rinsed it out worked great..

Son the Lord is showing the ones who loves him this is wild because I was telling my son last week the sky looks like it did when I was a little boy in the 60 s he looked at me and said dad i was saying to myself the sky is so pretty we are children of god. I am rebuilding a 65 gto. ❤

Yes we are! And so blessed! God is good! That’s awesome I just sold the 66 I wanted to build unfortunately but it’s a blessing because we are on a path to get to live a better life with some hard work and sacrifice now.

Hi… I have same issue with 2 of my ‘54 Buicks one Super and one Roadmaster… check the heater hose that goes from the heater passenger side to the Dinaflow…maybe is clogged full of rust… ‘56 Buicks transmission cooling system is directly from the radiator to the Dinaflow.. God bless you

I added an aftermarket trans cooler, the factory one was rotten. Mine only has one heater core now and then straight back to the radiator. I bought an aftermarket radiator, just haven’t had a chance to swap it yet. I was reading online that a lot of these Buicks like to run right on the edge of overheating. Some folks add an electric fan, I’d rather avoid that. God bless you! Thank you for watching.

I have a 55 Buick Special with the 264 nailhead. I just replaced 12 foot of heater hoses to my transmission last week. I’m not to sure it wasn’t original . It was all the same kind of hose to the heater and back around. 70 k miles original condition in restored

Kinda missed this “episode”(?)… ‘55 Buick Super’s owner here (near identical as Roady’s then). Not sure if you have sold yr ‘55 Roady yet but, if you haven’t, trust me that if you absolutely do NOT have to sell it, don’t! You’ll very much regret that choice on down the road some. And we all know “regrets” ain’t healthy
