Hey Everyone - NOT a card video! Instead a peek inside the engine compartment of my 1955 DeSoto Firedome. It is has a 291 Hemi, automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes! Something is wrong with my brakes. Let me know what you think! Cheers.

Beautiful car! My first car was a 1985 Mazda RX7 that I fixed up with my Dad. I have been thinking about getting an old Mustang someday to work on

funny story, the car I kept asking my Dad to buy me once I had my DL was a white mustang like Jason Priestly drove on the show 90210...I ended up getting a 72 El Camino! lol

Saw One day - ran dry due to overheating - a little rest - a little fiddlin.. checkin on things - adding some water to radiator.. some ignition aid in the carb.. and yes.. V8 rumble The V8 doesn't look big - but maybe it's like ICE on the ocean..

Only 4.3 inch bore centers. The Chrysler version has 4.5 inch bore centers, the Dodge version was only 4.1 inch bore centers.

Got a vacuum leak to the brake cylinder. It’s assisted off of the engine vacuum . Hope that helps. Cheers!

I need a 6 volt wire harness for the 6 volt desoto fireflite coronado i have if you know a place i need some parts.... too trying to restore mine and the previous owner made it alot harder then need be

I have a 55 Fireflite Sportsman. I just finished rewiring but stayed 6 v positive. How are you charging your 12 v battery?

How mechanical are you ? I also have a 55 Desoto with the same brake setup. When I bought the car (Fireflite 2dr HT), the brakes were totally in-op. Now they work great. The hissing noise you hear is from the booster. There is a large rubber diaphragm inside that tears, resulting in your situation. If you are serious about working on this car, you will need a shop manual and a parts book. Search ebay for these. Get originals, not poor quality repros. This should be Job One. Contact harmonclassicbrakes.com/. They are the ONLY company that makes rebuild kits for this Bendix unit. Both the booster and the master cylinder. I rebuilt the booster in less than one hour. The master cylinder is difficult because you need a special tool to disassemble it. If you do not want to do it yourself, Harmon will also do a complete rebuild for you.

Hi Ron! Thanks so much for the reply! I am going to make a video of me trying to take off the whole unit, and yes, I found harmon and intend to just send it all over to them. Any idea on how I get started? I assume remove the brake fluid line, and start unbolting? Just no videos anywhere! It will be fun. I super appreciate your comment.

@@JayBobSons - Don't do a thing until you have a copy of the 54-5 Desoto shop manual in hand. You should have an understanding of how this unique setup works. Removing is straight forward. Just use PB Blaster to free up rusty bolts so you don't snap them.

Hey Chris! Congrats! I have no idea buddy. Still been dragging my feet on the brake repair I need to do. I am gonna keep mine original, but the idea of an overhaul like that does sound cool! What color did you get? Firedome model?

Classic cars should be kept STOCK. If you more go, you can drop in the Chrysler 331, or, if you can find one, a 56 DeSoto only 330 engine. Putting a bigger engine will require you to change the trans and the rear end, as the V10 is a huge - well over 400 cubes. The torque will quickly destroy your stock transmission and stock rear end, and maybe snap your stock U joints as well.
