Perhaps "fools" fall in love because they fail to understand a major life lesson... "you can't hurry love!" I am inspired to make this joke because Diana Ross as a solo artist made a cover version of this song in the early 80's which had instrumentation that sounded like it was meant to be a tribute to the Diana Ross & The Supremes iconic hit "You Can't Hurry Love"! And it seems possible that Phil Collins was inspired to cover the Supremes song after hearing Diana's cover of the Lymon song because it was soon after Diana's Lymon cover that he made his legendary cover version of the Supremes' most famous hit. And I can name FOUR other musical acts who made songs soon after Collins did this which were VERY obviously inspired by either Diana's original song or Phil's almost identical cover version, or I guess we could say inspired by them both! Billy Joel, Hall & Oates, Wham!, and Stevie Wonder (interestingly he himself had been a Motown icon in the 60's) all made songs with that same basic sound.
