Franklin Joseph "Frankie" Lymon (September 30, 1942[5][6] - February 27, 1968[7]) was an American rock and roll/rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, best known as the boy soprano lead singer of the New York City-based early rock and roll group The Teenagers. The group was composed of five boys, all in their early to mid-teens. The original lineup of the Teenagers, an integrated group, included three African-American members, Frankie Lymon, Jimmy Merchant, and Sherman Garnes; and two Puerto Rican members, Joe Negroni and Herman Santiago. The Teenagers' first single, 1956's "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," was also their biggest hit. After Lymon went solo in mid-1957, both his career and that of the Teenagers fell into decline. He was found dead at the age of 25 on the floor of his grandmother's bathroom from a heroin overdose.[8] His life was dramatized in the 1998 film Why Do Fools Fall In Love. - wikipedia

One thing that people overlook about the Teenagers and Frankie is that they were not trained and formed by professional talent agents and voice therapists. They didn't have choreographers. They did all that themselves. They created the group and the songs by just singing together on street corners and hallways practicing. This is pure talent in raw form.

The Teenagers were one of the early successful adolescent R&B/Vocal groups and inspired NUMEROUS others across the country’s inner-cities. For young urban people (especially Black Americans), singing or harmonizing on sidewalks, street-corners, in schools, basements, etc. were later generations’ versions of pastimes like rapping, street dancing, video games, doing social media challenges, etc.

Frankie's problems had absolutely nothing to do with his "older women." They didn't push heroin on him and were not pedophiles. It was his superstar exposure to drugs and unscrupulous management with little of Frankie's interests in mind. They ripped him off, used him, and left him with an unreliable reputation in the music business.

And to know that he got started at 12 by a woman over 20 who not only took his virginity but also talked him into doing a skin pop and from there he was hooked. All the talent in the world and this kid never had a shot. Every adult in his life was more interested in exploiting him rather than protecting him.
