Who the hell is Ironhead Sally? Well here's my channel description:
Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies. Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.
Appreciate all the love & support
Keeping it Real! Keep it Sketchy!
FTW💚Sally

My great uncle used to engrave things just incase they were stolen. So he’d have a way to prove they were his. There was a lot of bike thief’s in the 60’s. He’d also engrave Tools, tool boxes…etc 🤔👍🏻

Good day. Nice project. I was never really a fan of Ironhead sportster’s. I have probably owned n flipped at least 50 of them over the years. A year ago I decided to scratch build a bike from all of my shop parts. The funny thing is. It’s a ironhead Sportster! & I’m really digging it! Ha ha. Smitty

Hi 👋, Sally, SMOKING 🚬 LOOKING 👀 GREAT 👍,😂 . It would be nice if you kept photos of what you have found, written inside and outside the bike, And obviously it will need your signature on it, 😂, my business that are used to have years ago, involved in furniture restoration, making and restoring doors and windows, and barn conversions, back in the early 80s, I was given a job to restore and repair the front door and surround, that had been hit by a truck, when I dismantled all the framework around the door, the canopy over the top, of the door, There was someone signature in the back of the canopy, and the date, 1728, but I cannot remember the persons name, and over the years I have seen lots of peoples signatures and dates. I have done the same thing when I have made furniture, doors, windows et cetera It is good to keep a record of what you have done and made, something to look back on, 😂 when you are sitting in your rocking chair on your porch, doing your knitting, 😂 , when you are in your 80s and 90s, 😂. Stay safe, I look 👀 forward to seeing your next stage of your build, Phil from the moulin France,

Wowww year 1728 thats amazing to come across! I will have to carve my name and date into her, great idea! We try to keep pictures of all the bikes we have had our hands on, was 13 bikes last year, we slowed down this year though 😅🤣 its crazy to look back on and go wow! lol thanks Phil, appreciate your support!

Best way to get an Ironhead motor in and out of the frame is to have a pile of blankets on the floor and just lay the bike over. Block up the top of the motor (and frame) so it sits level and slowly pull out all the bolts and lift off the frame. This is especially true when you’re reassembling the bike with a freshly painted frame you don’t want to scratch. Bought my first Ironhead back in the ‘80’s and have had a bunch of them (and still do). 64 years old and those motors are too heavy to dead lift and wrestle in a frame anymore.
@ironheadsally
@ironheadsally 9 ай бұрын
Thats probably much easier than the heart attack i get seeing the engine tipped out 🤣 we’ll probably do that once the frame is painted! I chipped the heck outta my frame when we did my other ironhead build and had a buncha touch ups lol! Cheers and thanks for watching!

Suggestion,before moking it up, lay the engine on a blanket, then slide the frame over the engine. Save on back and easier to install.

G'day Sally, back in the days before the interweb I would read great publications such as WHAT FITS WHAT on Harley Davidson by Mike Arman - Q&A manual of motorcycle maintenance by Bagnall Publishing Co.- V-Twin Thunder by Carl McClanahan edited by Mike Arman - CUSTOM CHOPPER COOKBOOK by Mike Geokan edited by Mike Arman and Easyriders tech tips & tricks plus various other publications. They all are a great read and are very informative especially if you have a hankering for knowledge. Cheers Sally and still lovin' the veelogs, all the best from NZ.👌👍

I’m 68 and to me any real Sportster shifts on the right. But seriously, if you want good positive shifting keep it on the right. Added linkage will take away from that good positive feel and if you ride bikes with right and left side shifting enough soon it becomes second nature and you won’t screw up. Whatever you decide, have fun with it!
@ironheadsally
@ironheadsally 9 ай бұрын
Oohh thank you, i’ve read that too, that’s why i am on the fence, i’ve read that switching sides and extra linkages leads to sloppy shifting!

Yer off to a good start, Sally! Q: I had a Joe Hunt magneto on my '48 Shovel/Pan years ago, and I tried several things to get the lights to work. How are you planning on doing yours?
@ironheadsally
@ironheadsally 6 ай бұрын
The lights were already wired when i bought the bike, so just going to mimic that, the lights just wire into the generator on the front of the engine, i’m not very familiar with the wiring for pans, but i would think just the into the generator. The beauty of these older bikes and not a lot of extra wiring and switches and things lol
