The road home from Virginia City Round Up 2023. Riding my 1985 Ironhead Chopper. All of the shenanigans that ensue when your out living on the bike. No chase vehicle, no trailer, just a pack on the bike and a smile on the face!

Who the hell is Ironhead Sally? Well here's my channel description:
Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies. Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.
Appreciate all the love & support
Keeping it Real! Keep it Sketchy!
FTW💚Sally

You and you old man are like me. Have a old school soul. Not many of us left. Panhead Billy is the definition of old school soul. Your generation is one of the last to have old school souls. I have noticed when bikers get older, many will revert to a comfy bagger. Sometimes it is a necessity, I guess. I dont know. I also think alot of young people cannot afford a single part on a Harley cause they dont wanna work for it. Maybe I am wrong but I hope the days of old will come back again.

Yup, I'm 60 now n just yesterday here in Louisiana we got together for a ride, another 57 yr old showed up on his bike, the other 12 guys were calling n saying it's raining but it was only sprinkling. Two hrs later the guys hooked up with us cus it stopped raining and they wanted to go stop for a beer! Lol when they pulled in, I just kept riding. I oddly enuf couldn't see myself drinkin a beer with them. Just saying. Glad y'all's bikes enjoyed the lil trip.

Yeah it's sad to say but the bike life of today is Nothing of the bike life of yesterday. I can honestly say this because I have been riding for 43 years. Will be 61 this October but still on 2 wheels & knees in 'da breeze ever chance I get. Today it's the so called "Latest Greatest" bike you can get. Not to mention all those Big Wheel Show bikes you never see in every day life but on trailers when there is a rally or bike event. Comradery , Brotherhood & Respect is a rare thing today. I want to say Thank you for the way ya'll keep the lifestyle real & let ya'll know really dig the videos & content on your channel !

We didn't quit anything, we just don't buy into " everyone gets that respect " when so many simply bought it ,,, while we all been living it for 50+ years and only have one good shirt to wear. Keep doing what you're doing, after a while you will see us around, and maybe along the way someone will invite you into what you're looking for, but you got to keep earning it even long after you think you found it! You/re on the right path, doing damn good too, keep it up and decades from now you will feel it in the mirror looking back at you. You just got to put in your time and be real to yourself. Btw,,, fix that intake leak, that front band aint sealing on the manifold, the O-rings couldn't take the heat, and check your base nuts hot, typical iron head, good job Sally!

I went from one coast of Canada to the other on a 1987 suzuki Intruder 1400, one summer about 5 years ago. tenting the whole time. And in all my travels I Only met two cool bikers, one old dude on an shovelhead, who was broke down on the side of the highway, and another dude that stopped to help me when I was out of gas on the side of the highway, he was on a wrought iron frame panhead that he built himself. He took me to a gas station and told me many stores of riding across the country, He even asked if he could take pictures of me and my bike. Most other bikers turned up their nose at me. It's not cool the world is about a status and the illusion of being wealthy these days. I Can't wait until I get my 72' ironhead on the road and and get some miles on it.

Hardhead Sally.... There was a nice chopper all painted up with a blue frame, with yellow/ orange tinged roses and an Eagle hand painted on the very front of the tank, skyblue backround on the tank, a bunch of brass, including the air filter, with a knucklehead (brass 'Knuckles") engine in it. The owner is from the L.A, CA area. I saw that bike 8-12-23 at The Rock Store near Malibu, CA, and took some pics of it. You will find some cliquish biker groups from So CA, just the way it can be. You featured this bike in your last video when taking pics of all the custom bikes at the event. Hope this helps! BTW,, he rode the bike to The Rock Store that day, didn't trailer it. No idea how it got to Virginia City.

The bikers that you are looking for got old and don't ride anymore. The youngsters aren't wrench benders. Back in the day, public schools had auto shop and industrial arts classes and every guy wanted in them. We worked on our own stuff because it was more economically feasible to repair than to replace. Plus, a guy could do a great deal of the maintanance on his ride because it was simple to repair with basic tools. That is no longer the case. Guys now, because they don't have the skill or inclination, either hire it done or just buy a new one. Some of us are still wrenching and riding, but there aren't enough of us to have a big rally. Sturgis and Daytona are just clownshows now. As far as rudeness goes, we are now a post Christian nation. The churches are no longer the dominant influence on our culture. People learn their manners from Hollywood and Rap music. Politeness, courtesy, and civility aren't taught by those people.

Honestly i would worry more riding a TC or newer. My ironhead is simple, like ridiculously simple. That twin cam has sensors and needs more tools and computer knowledge. Thats why we love these old scoots. I got like 10 wires that could cause issues, easier to fix than a TC! lol cheers Billy! Ride the heck outta that Dyna and enjoy! 😁
@Kevin-ne3tl
@Kevin-ne3tl 10 ай бұрын
@@ironheadsally Nah, TC's are fine, only 1 sensor on my '02 Dyna, it's the camshaft position sensor. The main concern on the 99-06 TC's are the spring loaded cam chain tensioners. These can either be changed over to the newer hydraulic setup, (with new oil pump) or if crank runout is within acceptable limits, can be converted to a gear driven system. Other than that, TC's are pretty much bulletproof. 😀

I've pulled up to the bowser and a biker on the other side won't even look at me let alone converse. I think the biker culture we knew 40 to 50 years ago is dying. Anyhow great coverage of the trip. Stay safe. Cheers from down under 🇦🇺

Hi Sally from Barrow in Furness in Cumbria England. Great vids and love your attitude. Afraid the world has changed, everything is a photo opportunity to lots of people. They can see you are the 'Real Deal' and that intimidates them so just smile and wave and move on. We are having a memorial ride for a local biker made good (Dave Myers 'hairy bikers' fame) in June, hoping for 10k + bikes to take part. Proper biker with a proper attitude to life and we are going to remember him by partying. Just bought myself an imported Ironhead (west virginia title) that looks like a 'Riders' bike, looking forward to a good summers riding on the back country roads after a bit of fettling and getting the know 'Fatarse' (got a huge seat for a sporty ha ha ) cheers

I really dig your channel Sally as it’s an inspiration to me cos my son and I just bought a couple of early to late seventies ironheads and are working on getting them running again 🤙🏻🤙🏻 We are working out of an 8x12 rickety ass shed so space is super limited lol I had a 76 iron head previously that I traded a mower for in non running condition and got it running but had to end up selling it because I needed the money 🤦🏻‍♂️ which was incredibly difficult to do as I’ve wanted a Harley since I was a kid. Anyway, as I said earlier I really dig your channel and I’m gonna stay subbed no matter what 😁

My friends still have their bikes, but they set in the garage, and they became couch potatoes, I have ridden across the country many times, and I also rode my Harley-Davidson across all of Europe I wish the good times would come back I can remember when I couldn't wait for the EASY RIDER MAGAZINE, IN THE WIND MAGAZINE to come at the beginning of the month

Sally, most of us real bikers have died of , or disabled. The real ones I mean . I still have my ridged frame with apes 77 shovel paucho , open prime straight pipes, and a 19 sport glide and 17 tri glide . Still live the club life in one of the big 4 clubs . But we are few and far between. The internet is also to blame for our decline . There's no real bikers on you tube either , there just people who think they are and are really into geek squad shit. Except for yourself and your husband. I mean I hate to say it but real bikers years ago , would never shower , theyde live a life of oil and grease and dirt. You can still live the life yourself as you do , but finding people like you guys may be a long hard road. Anyway loved your video, take care.

It happens in all things in life. Nothing is permanent but the changes. I know some old bikers who built their own choppers years ago and love telling stories about them. Today those same guys have become more interested in restoring these old bikes back to their factory form. I think that is more of the trend now. One of the guys I'm talking about has his dad's old pan head in his garage. He gets it out every now and then and rides it just to keep it up. He loves to piddle with old bikes and is currently restoring a 72' shovel head. But when he wants to ride somewhere out of town he is on his bagger because he wants the comfort in his older years. He goes to Sturgis every four or five years. I told him I thought it would be cool if one year he would ride that old pan head. He said if ever did he would want to stretch the trip out because he wouldn't want to ride over 60 MPH. He never has done it. He is 70 years old now so he probably never will. If I were you I would spend time with those who enjoyed my company and to hell with those who don't. I'll be friends with someone who rides a Harley Davidson or rides Honda Trail 125 as long as they're riding and fun to be around. If you spend too much time looking for people just like you I think you'll be disappointed more than happy.

When I started touring in 1978, I did it on a Yamaha 750. Back then everyone rode everything, and were accepted as bikers. I went to Sturgis, and of the 25,000 people in attendance, there were all kinds of bikes and marquees. Today, it’s 99% Harleys, and most of those ‘bikers’ trailer their bikes, and don’t even know how to ride, as evidence of all the ‘foot draggers’ at the rally. I’m 72, still trying to get out there, but between my wife’s health issues, and mine, and our two puppies, I don’t often get the chance at long trips. I’m quite frankly getting fed up with the Harley scene today, everyone is the same. I’ve always been a guy that likes to be different, so I’m thinking of trading my 12 FLHTK in for a Goldwing, and maybe an old EVO.

I’d say just keep an open mind Sally, the days when cocaine and Bud was America’s cup of coffee are over, we can’t even use the word “ faggot” these days without worrying about losing your career. I’m an old soul myself at 45 and all my bikes are still carb’d, my newest being a 2002 and with that being said , the lifestyle is still out there and the age or type of motorcycle doesn’t mean anything. Most don’t want to ride an iron because they are high maintenance and though wrenching is part of the experience, people want to spend more time riding rather than worrying if their bike will survive the ride. Also, especially club life, we ride hard and fast, no way an iron or shovel would cut it in this world anymore unless it’s vintage day. You also got to remember, those old school hard cores hate camera’s, cell phones and GPS’s. Life on road is just that, life on the road. It’s not about who’s out there or what they are riding but what the open road means to you. Don’t spend time trying to figure out the past, just enjoy and the universe will take care of itself.

We're still here, just a little older and further in the shadows of this crazy world that makes little sense anymore. We have always been on the fringe of society. There has always been sub culture within the biker world. When the shovels came out we said no way. Real bikers ride knuckles and pans. AMF sent us into a frenzy. "Did you here Roger and Betty down the street got themselves a bowling ball". Little did we know AMF was the reason for the EVO. We coined the phrase "see no EVO", in my opinion the best motor Harley has made to date. 1970's technology taken to the next level but Harley had a big problem, bikers could work on them and they would last for ever with little work. They had to complicate the design over the next few models. The Discovery channel flooded the scene with OCC and biker build off B/S but that's a whole other rub story. Real bikers don't go to rallies anymore, I haven't been to Sturgis since 85. We go to party's and campouts. Rallies have become the scene to be seen and make content. There are a few young guns out there keeping it real, building choppers in their garage and it great to see. Check out the chopper crew in Japan. I highly recommend you guys go to the "Party at the pen". I have never seen so many survivor daily riders in one spot in decades, knuckles, pans and shovel's oh my. Luke does a great job putting it together and it is not a "bike show" or Rally its a party with 75% real bikers showing their daily riders they built including my 47' knuckle. I had goose bumps walking around meeting tons of real bikers, it was a breath of fresh air. Those guys that walked around you at the restaurant were intimidated, they know your the real deal and they are playing the part. We're are still here, compressed discs and tired eyes from decades on the road. Keep two wheels down and see you out there.

It's society in general that has become pardon the French...Pussified ! I'm a rider who's 1st Bike was a 51 panhead and because of age "65" I don't get to ride her as much as I would like. I did buy a Cruiser but my heart will always be old school.It's sad the last ride I did was from Ohio to Tennessee and back and had not 1 fellow rider willing to go. I went alone and enjoyed every mile.

That is bad ass!! And yeah, riding those bikes took skill and mechanical understanding. These new bikes anybody can ride and many dont take care of them. Cheers!!! Ride free and ride safe 😁

I had a 1975 XLCH for 16 years. I wouldn't trade one tank of fuel in my Indian Chieftain for that old bike!
