After all the Philco Predicta restorations I’ve seen on YT, there must be more in operation now than when they were being sold!!😂

Not only do I love watching old tube electronics get fixed and learning more about them since I only really understand basics of amplifiers but your excitement when the tv came on and also the random cat appearances made it all the more entertaining haha! Keep up the awesome vids!

When Philco went out of business, it had a lot of Predictas in warehouses. Some of the motel chains bought them up for use in guest rooms. I recall having one set, similar to the one featured in your video, in 1968 in my room at a Holiday Inn in the midwest, perhaps in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I don't recall if it had an antenna. I have read that the antennas were removed before the sets were placed in guest rooms. (The sets were connected to an MATV or CATV system.) So, your TV most likely was not used in a motel guest room. Anyway, I thought it was a nice novelty set! Furthermore, it had a very practical feature for motel rooms. Guests could swivel the screen for best viewing from different places in the room.

This model has the transformer power supply and parallel heaters. (but still uses a capacitor voltage doubler). Appears to be essentially the same chassis used in the 1960 23" console set we had. One of the selling points was "Philco Cool Chassis TV--with no parts underneath".

*IM ALWAYS STRUCK* when I watch videos like this by how loud cars are in America. I live next to a car pack in a city centre in the EU and I just dont hear cars.

Excellent video, Jack! It might be a good idea to wear some vinyl gloves to insulate you from shock hazards, as well as shielding you from any lead in the solder on those old boards, as well as cadmium oxide from the metal parts of the chassis. When I was a little kid, these sets were all over the place!!

I have always wanted a Predicta. Preferably a 17 inch model with a metal cabinet. Sadly, as with a bunch of vintage electronics, they have become "trendy" and the prices are artificially very high, so one cannot be gotten for a reasonable price unless you are really lucky.

Mate, when Tubes go 'Caked' like that it means they have lost vacuum, likely while they were on too. The 'White cakeyness' inside is the oxide, the getter (The black, metallic looking area on the glass) should never be white in a healthy tube.

Those horizontal bars were much closer at the top than at the bottom, so please do the vertical controls and the centering rings.

Where did you get your picture tube tester and your drugstore tube tester? Just do not know where to start looking. Just know eBay is not my 1st, 2nd or 3dr choice.

If a tube has white instead of silver it means the tube is bad
