Boy it is weird driving up the Hope Princeton highway, so many changes. Including an ugly mine to top it of.

2:30-2:43min is north of Enderby then the sign showing the turn from 97A to Salmon Arm at Forest Grove on to what is now Springbend Road. It's neat to see the orchards right into Salmon Arm, and old wharf area.

back when BC wasn't overpopulated and over developed. It must have been paradise. Distances in normal numbers too.

oh to be able to drive thru Salmon Arm without dozens of red lights, road work and miles of ill planned roads and strip malls.

2:55 The descent into downtown Salmon Arm, south of McGuire Lake. 3:38 Hwy 1 at Cruickshank Point on Shuswap lake, between Sorrento and Squilax

2:48 the grove of trees jutting into Shuswap lake is near where the current wharf is. 3:16-3;36 is the bluff between Salmon Arm and Tappen.

I used to watch the boats come in and out once the wharf was built. Lived right up the hill on what used to be Lakeshore Terrace. Just to the right of the motel on McGuire Lake coming down the hill. Fished a lot of carp down there.

The signboard at 2:45 identifies Salmon Arm as being 11 miles to the left, and Revelstoke as being 68 miles to the right. No mention of Sicamous. Was Sicamous so small in 1959 that it would escape mention on such signboards? This appears to be a country road heading to an intersection with the predecessor to the TransCanada or BC 1.

That was hwy 97a by turn off going up to Ranchero .

@@dustyroads5811 The turnoff was on to what is now called the Springbend Road. Springbend goes over to rejoin 97B on its way to Salmon Arm. 11 miles appears to be the road distance to Salmon Arm going by this route. Google Maps Street View shows that the white house behind the sign and fir tree is still there. Fir tree isn't. From this location, if you stay on 97A you go to Sicamous where it links up with the TransCan and on to Revelstoke. 68 miles. The new 97B bypassing this little neighborhood has been built since 1959.

The hops are in what is now Dallas, close to where Melrose Place dead ends south of the TCH

@@wits1end0 Close but not quite. It's at Campbell Creek, just west of the Wildlife Park. There were several hop yards in the area, including in what are now the western and eastern sections of Campbell Creek Industrial Park, as well as right across the highway from the hop yard seen at 4:11.

@@russallert I used streetview to match the hill on the left to the film. I think the industrial park is a bit too far east.

@@wits1end0 After taking another look, and comparing this video with Street View and Trans Canada Phil's 2017 video, I'm going with somewhere between Campbell Creek and the east end of Dallas. I tried using Sunrise Mountain above Barnhartvale as a way of getting perspective, but it looks either closer or farther depending on the type of camera and lens and all that technical stuff. But I'd say definitely along what used to be the long straight stretch of highway, before the freeway moved the road closer to the ridge. I think it's east of the slight hill on the road, but it could also be west of it as well.

I was 5 in 1959. That butt ugly Chev is about the only car I hated from the 50s. My dad was a GM mechanic from 1948 to 1984.
