One of the highlights of my life. 1960 World Series. Game 7 was the last day of my boyhood. 😉

Kinda wish there would be a scoreboard. But to think my LATE GRANDPARENTS and Aunt Elaine and uncle Gary watched this game is WOW! almost 20 years before i was born.

There's something poetic and beautiful about baseball in that the World Series' only Series-ending walk-off home run (in this game, hit by Bill Mazeroski) and its only perfect game (thrown by Don Larsen of the 1956 New York Yankees) are both by players who were otherwise fairly ordinary

No World Series will ever have a weirder composite box score than this one. The Yankees outscored the Pirates 55-27 in this series.

Best WS ever and game7 the greatest game ever and I'm not a fan of either team. I'm struck by how quickly the game was played it's also in daytime which imo WS games on weekends should be.

One of only times in World Series history that a series was won on a home run (1993 the other, only that series went six games).

With 2 outs in the top of the 8th, men on 2nd and 3rd, Shantz the Yankees pitcher is allowed to hit, and flies to Clemente. Then gets lifted in the bottom of inning. If I was a Yankee fan ( thankfully I am not) I would would be questioning Casey Stengel on that.

stevekirsch-Who cares? The Yankees lost, that's all that matters. Of course this game is the only one in which neither team registered a single strikeout.

Trivia: who was the Yankee Left Fielder on Mazeroski’s game winning home-run? Hint: he’s a famous Yankee.

Yogi Berra. He was in leftfield for the Yankees, while Johnny Blanchard was the catcher for this game. The only time in World Series history where neither team struck out any batters

Stengel would've been a fan of 'bullpen games' I think.

Would've been an all time baserunning choke by Mantle if he got tagged out there before the tying run scores. If he ran away, that run scores easily

The correct play for Nelson to make (with hindsight of course) would have been to field the ball and throw step on the base (which were happening simultaneously on this play) and immediately throw home knowing that the tying run is almost certainly going to try and score. He knows if he doubles up Mantle the game is over though. I understand the temptation was too great but he didn’t get the out. If he throws directly to home plate the runner on third is out by a mile at home. The ball was hit too hard for him to have any chance to score.
