On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-2-20.
We're looking at a 1963 Buick Wildcat in Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 401 CI V8 “dual quad” carbureted engine producing 340 HP.
The car's Owner is Dennis Doerge. Dennis has had this car since 2015. He shares his interest in this car came from the one year only body style combined with the rarity of the 4 Speed on a 2 Door. This car has been restored and looks “showroom” new.
If you’re interested in a car cover for your car, take a look at the website of our Friends at California Car Covers Company www.calcarcover.com
ENJOY!

My dad had the same car in white with a convertible top. I was 12 years old and learned to drive in that car. The day he bought it we were on our way to my grandparents farm when the alternator gave out. My dad stayed calm but my mom had a coniption because she had covered food dishes that we were taking to the farm. The Buick dealership owner, Jim Bower met us on the road with his mechanic and put a new alternator and battery in it and gave my mom a bottle of wine. Between my dad, my brother and myself we bought 16 new Buicks, 5 used Buicks and an Opel from Mr. Bower over the years until he sold his business. After that dad bought Cadillacs and my brother and I owned Chevys and Pontiacs and a random Buick or two.

That is a very nice, very cool looking 63 Wildcat with the 401 Nailhead with dual quads!!! I thought only the 425 Nailhead had dual quads!!! Plus the four speed & the awesome looking console & bucket seats!!! My 64 Wildcat only had a 401- 4 barrel,a bulletproof turbo 400 trans but I also had custom dual exhaust with cherry bomb glass packs with shorty pipes & it had plenty of power!!! I don't know if you know this, but the Wildcat really made it's debut in 62. It was an optional package on the Invicta & the very next year the Invicta was gone & enter the Wildcat!!! The Wildcats,in my opinion were the best Buicks!!! That 63 Wildcat is a real gem because of it's rarity & pristine condition!!! I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ that Wildcat!!! Another great find, Lou!!!

Perfect day, and perfect car! In 1963 there were very few cars that were faster than this one. I have seen Wildcats at shows, etc, but don’t recall any with that super rare 4-speed, even though I belong to Buick Club of America, and have attended Regional and National meets. Thank you so much Lou for another great car story! You always bring us the best stuff.

WOW WOW! This just might be one of the HOLY GRAILS for BUICK! 👍👍👍 I also believe this was the First Year for the AM/FM Radio which is very RARE for 1963! I don’t believe Redline Tires were available yet??? Not until 1965! Also take Note of those Beautiful CORRECT EXHAUST ends! There is nothing like a NAILHEAD V8 Buick 🏁🏁🏁

Not sure on the year redlines were first available. I have them on my 67 Buick Special Deluxe bought new by my great grandparents. I think it had white walls factory. I like the look of the redlines. I also know you could get radial tires in 67 as a option.

@@thomasthurston6656; Yes, I think radial tires debuted in 67' on certain models, although not of the steel belted variety which became available in 69'. I think the Cougar GT-E 427 (W code) came equiped with them in 68', and possibly on 68' Cougar GT-E 428's if not, optional.

Wow what a beautiful unit this is! It was like brand new! I love the color of the top the red paint the white interior just makes it ever so sporty and compliments the 4 speed transmission with that huge engine! What a neat owner too. I loved his history of the car and of this special Buick. That had a awesome engine sound too! Those wheels and the red line tires I just loved. That ride along was great! Brings back memories. Wow, did this bring back memories. Both my father and uncle had '63 Wildcats. My fathers was maroon with a black top and interior, my uncles was triple black. We took my uncles to the 64-65 New York Worlds Fair. My father who is now 98 years old, still says it was his favorite car, although he also says that "it would pass anything on the road, except a gas station". One interesting feature on the console was a built in litter container, it was located between the shifter and tach. As a kid I thought that car was the coolest car on the road. As an adult I still do. Thanks Lou for this trip down memory lane.

This is a beautiful, amazing, rare car. Lucky man. I had this same color red, in a ‘64 Wildcat convertible!, loaded with all power windows, conv. top, trunk opener, antenna, etc. back in ‘71. Wish I had that back again! Even though mine was’t the “Super Wildcat” dual quads that this one has, it had a single quad and it was a lot fun to driver! The torque and pickup were phenomenal! “The Banker’s Hotrod”.

The thing that's so wonderful about Buicks, Chryslers, and Mercuries of that era is the very tail end of this vid. Being 100% stock, it's fast without being obnoxiously loud in sound and appearance. My Dad loved this era of Buicks (Buick loyal from 1955 through 1992 when he discovered he couldn't buy a real Buick engine other than a wimpy 3.8 6 cylinder so he switched back to Mercury for the Ford 4.6). My Dad swapped out his Buick's every two years, his and her's, alternating new cars every year. His absolute favorites were straight body lines of this era. When we found his photo albums, he had more pics of Invicta's, Electras, and Wildcats than anything else. Initially we thought it was due to his age, mid 30's, but we all had conversations with him, at different times in his life, about cars he owned, and he always came back to this decade and how much he loved the 401's reliability, compactness, and how their early 60's Buicks were twice the cars of 65 and up, as all car manufacturers began to consolidate design, material, and platforms. Truly, I agree with my Dad. This era of cars are all unique by brand and style.... Thanks Lou, for bringing these ultra rare and forgotten cars to life on KZfaq.

Well my 1963 Buick Wildcat has been family owned since 1962. She has power windows all original glass p/s p/b factory in dash a/c a dynaflow transmission and have both the 4 barrel and dual quad set up. My Grandfather bought the car new and traded it in on a 65 Wildcat and then my father bought the car from the dealer 2 months later. My father gave me the car in 1979. I still own it to this day. She has one of the smoothest running motors and the motor has plenty of power.

The Buick Wildcat was introduced in 1962 as a limited-edition submodel of the Invicta series, and 1963 was its first year as a series in its own right, adding a four-door hardtop and a convertible to the original two-door hardtop. A four-door sedan was added for 1964. Collectible Automobile in its December 1988 issue called it the "Sixties Century", and after going on a virtual ride with you and Dennis in this one, it's pretty clear why! Thanks again, Lou! My 63 LeSabre 4 dr. hardtop with 401/280 and Twin Turbine was far different from this Wildcat in some respects, but many things identical such as the dashboard, hood, trunk, windshield, taillights, etc. I loved it. Manually select low and then simply floor it and 60 was less than 7 seconds away on good pavement. The "switch the pitch" feature was fabulous.

I have owned four 1963 Buick Wildcat cars. One four door hardtop and two two door hardtops with 401 and the Dynaflow auto. One two door hardtop had the 401 and Borg Warner four speed. I drove this car to Dallas and back many times, and I let a friend take his family to East St. Louis in it once. It had no mufflers but dual straight exhaust. It was capable of nearly 75 mph in first gear and I had it up to 45 backwards once. Mine ran a Carter AFB carb while some of the Dynaflow equipped ones had a Rochester 4G. After driving it for three years a guy offered me a good price for it. It was a good car as all four were.

Excellent interview! Did not know alot of the features of this car, absolutely beautiful! I really like the passion that this owner has for his car. In an era when GM allowed for alot of individuality for their respective brands, and they were "rolling pieces of americana artwork". As a Buick dealer owner, he no doubt knew that during the 60's and 70's, Gonzalez-Murphy Buick in Culver City, California, was the number 1 Buick dealership in the USA. Thanks again for highlighting such a rare and individualized car, and the very knowledgeable proud owner!!!

What a beauty! One of my favorite cars I owned was my '63 Wildcat. 5 years of good times with it. Someone [dealer add on] added the dual-quad setup, as it was not a factory option until 1964, then only on the 425 engine. Same with the 15" chrome wheels. '64 beginning - then with black centers, not white. Not taking anything from this car, it is beautiful...just not quite original. A bit of ventiport trivia: last year for them on a wildcat was 1963. Following 1963, the ventiports were represented by aluminum/chrome hash marks on the front fenders. BTW, Lou, it is called a hood spear, not an ornament chrome thingy...

That takes me back. I always enjoyed the Buick Wildcat. The 1963 was my favorite. I have driven one but never even came close to owning one. haha Did the Owner's Guide say it went 0-60 in 8.3 seconds? It was a tad hard to see on my laptop. This gentleman really takes care of his. Low mileage.

Lou, My uncle had one of these and it was great. His too was a 4 speed and like the Olds Starfire, they would pass everything except a gas station. My uncle's car was a maroon color with black interior. It was nice like this one. You just don't see these anymore. Sure wish they would make them again. I'm a big fan. Treat this baby right and thanks. This is when quality went into the car, not just stamp them out for profit.

It's wonderful seeing this car is such great condition. As a teenager I would drive one of these from the U.S. to Mexico City every summer, and usually alone. The Wildcat was a tank, but suffered performance issues at altitude, as most carbureted do. It seemed like the people who owned these big Buicks didn't take the greatest care of them.

I had a 63' LeSabre but four door, black, with three on the tree and the 401. Just a two barrel carb but she would fly.
