Dad had a 300D and since was the last of the Hemi engines he kept it because the E was too convential. He loved the ram induction and traded it in on a black 300F with a tan interior. I was 16 when he had the D and 18 with the F. What a great car. He actually let me drrive it. He loved "shutting down" teen agers with their Chevy's! Thanks for the memories.

I too was fortunate that my dad purchased a 59 300 E new as a holdover in 1960 just before my 13 th birthday and I drove it in my State licensing test at 15. Although it was initially a light tan metallic, following a minor shunt in 1962, we had it repainted in Terra Cotta.

The ultimate 1960 Chrysler! My Dad had a 1960 Windsor 2-door coupe, white with a red leather and fabric interior, fake spare wheel cover, with swivel seats and a leather fold-down armrest up front and a vast rear window, I could lay down on the parcel shelf and gaze up at the stars! Though it had the base 383 cube engine, it was a high-speed cruiser. On a fast road, my Mom looked over and saw Dad was doing 115 mph! So he let her take the wheel. A few minutes later, he looked over, Mom was doing 105 mph! Great memories!

Hi, Lou! If Frank set a goal of finding a 300F, it was a pretty ambitious search. The exact production numbers for the 300F were 964 hardtops and 248 convertibles, for a total of 1,212, and who knows how many in Terra Cotta with AC. And as Frank said, they did come for a pretty penny, $5,411 for the hardtop, $5,841 for the ragtop. I would hardly say the earlier 300s weren't special, but I would agree the F does stand out with the Astrodome, the doughnut on the trunk, the four bucket seats, all those badges, and of course those fins and taillights! Thank you both for taking us on this rare, red hot, rambunctious ride with the sound of authority! Hope you didn't have to pay him for a ticket! LOL!

"Hole in the fender well to get to the rear sparkplugs." You learn something new every day. Notice all these "300" logos - there are so many of them, they're so big and it still doesn't feel overdone. That's incredible!! The "finerangs" as I like to call them for tail lights are pure awesomness as is the dashboard. You could have this '60 Chrysler 300F your whole life and it would never be boring to look at. Glad I hit that bell icon Lou, this was a real deal treat! and yes this did bring back memories! my late grandmother had a baby blue 1961 Chrysler Newyorker, while my grandfather worked in Hamtramck, aka "Dodge Main" at the time! the Three hundred letter series Chrysler's were the most beautiful cars when they came out! yet so underrated and often referred to as "Rich boy toys" at the time! But little do people know that they were the PIONEER, for the muscle cars at the time! before the max wedge cars, before 409's and GTO's, before the FE Fords! Thank you for this Lou! like I said earlier, this was a REAL DEAL treat! best wishes! :-)

Of all the cool cars I wished I had owned, the 1960 300 F is likely the #1 choice. As a new car it was stunning, and it is today. The styling is of another era but it still looks modern. I love the harder ride and louder sound, and the cross-rams may be tricky to tune, but they are badass.

As a designer myself, there's an exuberance to the late 50's and early 60's American cars that clearly shows in the confidence designers were willing to explore. They're ostentatious, but the reverence of future, technology and progress is so evident, one can't help but join the enthusiasm of the day. I never wanted one of these cars, but somehow I do. Funny how the power of design can influence opinions over time.

I agree with Frank that color is a big factor with most people when buying a classic car. In the right color combo, a car you might not have been interested in will suddenly catch your eye. I remember seeing that Astrodome dash as a kid at a car show and really being wowed. I can hear "Telstar" playing in my head when I see these cars. Very space-age looking.

One of my Dad`s best friends was a car dealer named Tom Arnold. Tom had his own car lots & had also worked for Castor Motors Chrysler Dealership. (Rockford, IL) Dad bought lots of cars from Tom over the years & every year around August we would go to all the Mopar dealers to see the latest offerings. Tom had a black 300F (since new I think) very much like the one shown here. It had a 150mph speedo & would BURY it, np. I rode in it, so I know!

Just a beautiful car! Yes, the "Bankers Hot Rod." Those are some serious fins, a good design starting in the middle of the door. The taillights fit perfectly into the shape of the fin and Chrysler didn't mess them up by trying to fit the backup lights into the taillight design. The front end with the grill is great. Today spark plugs last over 100k miles, in those days they had to be changed quite frequently and those plugs were not an easily accessible.

Once you jack up the front end, pull the wheels and unbolt the 8 bolts holding the access panel on each side, changing the plugs isn't bad at all.

For better or for worse, they don't build them like that anymore. And that is a shame. Compared to some of the other cars of that era, the fins are understated. For my tastes, it is nearly a perfect car. Frank has a sensational collection.

I'm looking at this again. This has to be your best coverage of "trunk and treats". You covered key portions of each item without overdoing it. Because the brochure only covered the 300F we didn't have to see unrelated models. I'm not a fan of big fins on 60's cars but the boomerang tail lights, found on the 1960 F, are the most attractive of these later letter series cars. The front and rear bucket seats and the full length console are really cool. The engine and dual carb set up is impressive. I like the color but the faux spare tire on the trunk lid detracts from the beauty of the car lines.

This is the one Chrysler fin car that I like and it is because of the beautiful and tasteful boomerang tail lights that fit seamlessly in the fin. I also love the front and rear bucket seats with the full length console. The AstraDome light cluster and the swivel drivers seat was way cool.
