Beautiful car, great video. I learned how to drive in our '64 Impala 2-door, around 1973. I remember the first time my dad let me drive it across Ventura Boulevard, through the traffic signal, into the Gemco parking lot. Nice memory.

Back in the late 70’s my cousin in Florida had 3 or 4 64 Impala SS’ and I thought they were beautiful even though I wasn’t even 10 years old yet. My family moved back to Minnesota and later learned that he had sold them all which broke my heart but to this day I can still remember the copper colored one which was truly spectacular to see.

Love that car! I had a '63 two door hardtop SS in Cherry red (repaint) with 327, but three speed (boo)...Had it only about a year before I moved up to my '70 Chevelle SS 396.

I've mentioned previously my dad had a '64 Impala. NOT an SS. It had a 283 V8 with a powerglide transmission. His car was a light blue with a matching interior. It had vinyl seats that got very very,very hot in the summer. Thanks for posting Lou! Be blessed always!

I had an uncle with an early 60s Impala convertible. I was beautiful to my young eyes. One day my dad came home with a borrowed Impala convertible. He drove me to school and all the kids were slack jawed and jealous. Wish I was as lucky today as I was as a kid. 🙂

Really nice Impala SS. A buddy had one back in the day and two of us would sneak in the drive-in movie in that massive trunk with room to spare! Ahh, the memories!

327 CI V8 with 300 HP. That's good to know. I owned a 1977 Chev Impala with a similar size engine, but it had way less horsepower. It did have the required four doors, though. Thank you for showing such an original automobile. There are not many left!

Back in the 70’s, my brother and I raced his white ‘64 Impala against my red Mustang Fastback, and he always won. Slot car racing is brutal. Thanks for the memories.

Everyone sure does know someone or has a connection to someone who has owned an Impala or Caprice from the 60s. They made so many of them. My uncle owned a sedan with the 6 cylinder. Drove it almost dailt for 30 years. He was so proud of it and kept it in such nice shape all the time. The trim on this one is fantastic. A super nice super sport.

Love this Car, If it had a 4 speed I would have went nuts,.. Back in the 60's I bought used a 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS 327/300 4 speed same color as this car. At the same time my best friend had a 1965 Impala SS with the 327/300 3 speed on the tree. This Car really took me back.... Thanks so Much Lou!!! 👍👍

Another great video Lou. My Uncle had a red one. It was a SS 327 automatic car also. He bought it used in maybe about 1970 and kept it until his death in 1990 from a brain tumor. My other Uncle got it then and drove it until 1997. It then sat beside his chicken coop until 2010 when he sold it. I tried to buy it off of him for years but he wouldn't sell it to me. It needed the front floor pans and some trunk pan work but man I wish it was still in the family. I do have the original hubcaps to it because my Uncle pulled them off and put a set of Cragar wheels on it in the 1970s.

The 64 Impala will always hold a special place in my heart, just a little better looking that the 63s. My parents had just replaced the 1960 red Rambler wagon with a 64 Malibu wagon, not a bad looking wagon itself, but ours had no options, except for automatic tranny and AM radio. Our summer time neighbors arrived with a Silver/red 64 Biscayne wagon, which I was enthralled with, it had a 283.

That same car, same color was my coming of age car as a teen in late 60's - early 70's. I had added an under the dash 8 track player that I got at Montgomery Wards.

What a beautiful car. Love the Impalas of this era.

My Dad had one of these, it was the regular Impala hardtop "no ss", he picked up his in 67', I got mine in 71' "ss of course") I was already married w/two little girls and we needed a family car, every Sunday was wash car day, what fun! Oh did I mention it had that ivory color white interior.

As much as I love the late 50s and early 60s Chevys the 1964 shoe box is my least favorite. However, this one is a beauty. Thanks, Lou for highlighting this classic. I had to add that in my opinion, the 327 was one of if not the best engine Chevrolet ever made.

That's one fine 1964 Impala SS! I actually prefer the 1963 body style better. There's something about the odd number year cars that had more character than the even number year Chevys. That 327 sounds awesome and so smooth. You can sure find some great cars to feature on your KZfaq channel Lou!

The SS package was an appearance package and you could order it with any engine even the 6 cylinder. Most buyers got the 283 V8 although more powerful engines were also available.

Totally awesome video. And now I've decided to subscribe to your channel. By 1992, when I was 20 years old, I'd talked to more than 1 person who had driven a '63 or ''64 Impala with the 300-horse 327 and powerglide transmission and felt muscle car performance out of it. It was then that that motor was added to my preference list along with any of the 409s; it's been proven to be that next best thing to a 409. Once I'd gotten my red-on-red '64 Impala SS, the first plan I had was to swap out its tired 250-horse motor for a 300-horse 327. Mine doesn't have a factory tach mainly because it was a 250-horse & powerglide car. But now that it's a 300-horse car, I'm thinking of trying to find the right '64 Impala factory tach for it. I am fixing to swap its 3.08 rear end out for a 3.36 and give it a limited slip posi. to wake up that small block w/powerglide up a little more from a stand-still. Rolling start, it really goes when I give it throttle, much like an actual muscle-car. It would've been far more expensive for me to try and get a 409 in mine, so a 300-horse 327 is what I wanted to do for it. And it's done. Actually, I got a 330-horse 327 that was remanufactured in Arizona and had it shipped to Bremerton, WA where I live and had it installed. Anyway, I achieved my main goal which is to have a '64 Impala with the same engine and tranny as this guy's '64 SS, given that any 409 powered one would've ended up out of my price range.

Great car and video. I can't help but think about the first 64 chevrolet I saw. It was a dealership prior to the 64s being released. Somebody with gm was driving it from Dallas to Houston. It was a lmpala ss with a 300 hp 327 with a 4 speed. Sometime around midnight doing about 80 mph the driver hit a cow on the highway. It was interesting to look at the engine was pushed back exactly in the middle of the car. The driver was reported to be unhurt.the engine was exactly between the two bucket seats. The driver was probably not hurt because the engine came straight back. The reported speed was suspect.

I sold my 1963 Impala about four years ago I’ve owned it since 1972 life got in the way and I had to get rid of it. I miss it but it went to a collector of classic cars and it’s in good hands.

Does anybody Remember the Commercial on TV about This Impala ?? In it was this guy who was placed like floating gradually into a convertible IMPALA "64" I think it might of been a Hertz car rental Commercial.. I seen that as a young Boy. It mesmerized me. Weren't no floatin full body humans that could glide into a Moving car like that.! & he had No wings! So my young self couldn't figure it out. My Aunt Said it was done w/wires. Seemed like cheap CGI to me back then Anyhow , I ❤️ this Car. I had two ❤️❤️of them. Being a student in college, I couldn't maintain that plus another one. It was mostly a parts car. Sadly I sold my pretty green Impala it was a green & a Green interior inside. Had a 283 2 speed powerhlide AM radio no AC power brakes. It was just a basic car but it was so fun to drive ANYWHERE with it.it had some really nice hubcaps too. Nope I never got to as they say in the current vernacular "pimp" it out. I still dream I'm driving it to this day.!! If I EVER get a bunch of money falling into my lap , I'll get two of these again. One daily driver the other. Yeah you guessed it. I'll pimp it out. No no no not like most do. No I won't low ride it either. No I won't put some monster engine in it . What I'd do if given the chance is take this car & redoo it up with all current drive train components & better suspension modernized as well. Including interior lighting & exterior lighting. One major difference is I will make it AWD. Yep now I know that's never been done to one of these "64"s before. Thanks Lou for the Video I appreciate it 👍

Dark slightly desaturated maroon red is really a color you can digest, and still see the entire shape and contour of the vehicle. Its the most 3D color in my opinion when viewing a car and incredibly rare honestly.

Ah! My first classic car! It was a only a nice "driver" though. White/white-red with A/C. My fav '64 SS is silver with a black interior/vinyl top and the spoke wheel covers. That convertible-creased hardtop was a brilliant idea.

Bellisimo y con TODO el papeleo En mis 30años con el Impala lo unico que me ha dado trabajo es el tren delantero .Los silent block ( Rubber Bushing) duran nada mas que 4años ! y después se desalinea Cuando tenia los frenos de tambor y la direccion hidraulica duraba menos todavía Los tambores frenaban muy fuerte Le puse frenos de discos y se termino el problema tambien de frenar mal cuando llovia La direccion hidraulica la saque. Forzaba muchísimo el extremo delantero . Alla por 1969 un amigo trajo de USA un chevy Impala IGUAL a este y ya tenia frenos de disco adelante . Que sonido tiene ese 327!

Super fine Super Sport SS love the faux convertible top. My 1963 Oldsmobile had that too I got it in 1972 and it was perfect condition. If I had a choice of having that 1963 Olds ,or this SS today, I would take the Olds holiday dynamic 88. Mostly because of sentimental reasons my first car. Both are fine cars. Thanks for this fine video a great SS.

5:55 Amazing how GM back then thought routing drain water thru the inside of the rocker panels was such a great idea that they actually promoted it in the sales brochure as protecting the rocker panels from rusting out from the inside! That was actually a horrible idea to keep that low area of the car body internally wet with whatever solution of road salt water came thru the cowl vents, and then the air flow they also engineered would really only serve to keep the wet rusty metal supplied with plenty of extra oxygen, feeding the rust further. It's not going to clean it and dry it out as they said. The water is going to penetrate the thin primer and saturate the spot welded seams. The only way to keep the inside of those rockers dry and rust free would be to live in a desert climate and not drive it in the rain.

I love 64 Chevy. My first car bought for $85.00. Was a 1964 Biscayne. Full of dents and 3 on the tree. Wish they weren't so expensive. I looked at one that was real cheap but the frame was rusted through. Would I been able to fix that? The structure was compromised. Did they make a 64 convertable.?
