Lou - another fine example of an American muscle car. I enjoyed how John articulated the backstory of this 1964 Chrysler 300K automobile. 😊 Looking forward to the next one!

Exactly.... The 300's started the hp war, way back in the 50's, when they used their 300 hp rating to name their high performance, banker's, hot rod. BTW, if you look at what Chrysler did with the Polara, 300, Belvedere, and Fury, for track or strip use, they beat Pontiac's GTO to the punch by three years: compare the wheelbase, length, and engines. Chrysler crammed a 413, max wedge, with cross ram induction, into those cars and smoked GTO's on the strip. It's kind of sad Chrysler missed that marketing chance. DeLorean didn't create the first muscle car, by any stretch of anyone's imagination, he just marketed that concept.

Very rare Mopar indeed! These cars you don't see everyday! Nice 300 K convertible! It looks like it has leather interior, which is in mint condition. The 413 engine sounds healthy, and the exterior color looks great! This car was made the year I was born so it's as old as I am! Another nice one Lou!

Thanks for featuring another iconic Letter Car, Lou. Love the color combo on John's K! Interesting that the K was the first Letter Car that had a 120 mph speedo, as compared to the '55-'63 Letter Cars that were fitted with 150 mph speedos. Also, the '64 300-K TorqueFlite cars had console-mounted shift levers, while all other '64 Chrysler TorqueFlites still had pushbuttons - the final year Chrysler Corp cars had this feature. Pushbuttons were found on all PowerFlite and TorqueFlite transmission Chryslers - Letter Cars and otherwise - from '56-'63.

Thanks to John for rebuilding the 64 K Convertible. These are being rare, seldom seen on the road nowadays. The 63/64 Orphan years were definitely a style that can grow on you. No way this would be confused for a GM or Ford. I appreciate the stock appearance and long term ownership. The 1964 300 Sport Series has cool stainless & aluminum side trim that hints to the coolness of a 1957 Chev Belair. The Letter car was more understated with pin striping. Only the second year for the 727 torqflite to have a Park gear !! Congratulations Great car to feature

Years ago, my dad had the New Yorker version of this car ( essentially the same but not optioned out like the letter card). For a heavy car, these cars were very fast with a lot of tourque. Most had the 413 engine which you can’t kill. The cross ram was a rare option even on the letter cars. The weakness of the 64 was the electronic starters; my dad would be busting his knuckles in the middle of winter every few years replacing his. I believe his term for it was “pig”. They say you either love or hate this year; for myself, I really love them! They were known as “the bankers hot rods” as they were not an inexpensive car (dad got his from a bank auction a few years old for $700 bucks…still a lot of money in 1967). Thx Lou!

These early to mid 60's Chryslers remind me of the Beverly Hillbillies show. Chrysler provided the vehicles for the show, so there was always a beautiful example pulling up in front of the mansion. Pretty sure "Miss Jane" drove one just like this one. The Magnum 500 wheels are a definite improvement.

Rare car, and very hard to find the trim pieces that help distinguish it from a regular 300 Sport. I love the letter cars! This has the std HP 413 4bbl with the cross ram being the only option for the 1st time. Dual quad engines were std fair up to this point. Interestingly enough, the cross ram was only rated 20 more hp...Those in the know say it was closer to an honest 400hp (gross) with torque in the 480 lb ft range.

Great! car story! Good show! For a Mopar, this 1964 Chrysler 300K is one of the rarest models, that I've ever seen so far, on the KZfaq channel. It really has style and lots of horsepower, especially with it's 413, under the hood. In fact I've heard a lot about the regular Chrysler 300 series, but not like this Nascar model version. Only 1200 of those were produced. However, the body looks somewhat like the Plymouth Valiant, or even the Dodge Dart of the same time era, for that matter. Thanks! again Lou, for this other utterly beautiful presentation, of your car story, wishing you and your family a very happy Holidays Season. Johnny, Montreal, Canada ❤️

Thanks, Lou and John. This is a nice car, and I wasn't expecting to ever see a video on one of them. My first car was a '64 New Yorker and John's car is similar enough to remind me of that. My car had the 413 too and hearing John's car is making me recall the same wonderful sounds from the engine and transmission. I'd forgotten how heavy-duty those sounds are, they're industrial like. Nice! Chrysler was such a significant company, it's a shame what's happened to them.

Beautiful car, beautiful red. I always liked the 1963-'64 Chrysler. They were Virgil Exner's final designs for the marque. John is right about 14" wheels. They started appearing on the 1957 models to lower the cars' profile, and almost immediately took over the industry. By the mid '60s, they made cars look over-bodied and ridiculous. Oldsmobile especially.

Chrysler was first with this cross grille design on the ‘60 300-F and continued it on the 300s for several years. It started appearing on Chrysler’s Dodge Division vehicles several years later.

I agree with the owner's decision to upgrade the 14" wheels. Wheels and tires were almost always undersized before the 1990s, and I would guess it was a cost savings measure from the factories. Every time I see a great car with pathetic little rubber feet it makes me wince. If it requires brake and suspension upgrades then do it. Put a rear sway bar on it and upsize the front bar. These mods are well worth the expense, and screw the "originality" of poor driving characteristics.

It must be very difficult to be incognito in a car that is torrid in RED! Would this be considered Chrysler's very first "K" car? :) I bet that "K" goes like "H"! Great owner and video! Thanks!

Classic-car owners should doll up in clothes of each car's "birth year". This would add to the aura, and they could likely afford it! Even thrift shops might provide some nuggets.😃

That looks great from the side and from the rear. Those modern wheels are what was needed for further crowning this design. That's a great interior. There's nothing like a sporty white leather set-up, even if a vaccuum guage substituted a tachometer. Air cleaners without silncers should have been mandatory for all banker's hotrods. The reason as to why more covertibles have survived may have been because sub-idiots considered them unsafe for their sub-idiotic demolition derby abuse, being that Chryslers were favored above all othe brands for such moronic events. If only convertibles would have been allowed for derbys, the national average intelligence score would have greatly increased

For me, the mid '60's Mopars look a little wonky until after I am around one for awhile and get used to it. Then I realize that's it's charm. The fuel door kind of looks a lot like a Chevy emblem though. Maybe a saboteur spy from GM helped design that? Big difference in cars from automakers building man made dream automobiles then to building computer design/study group people mover appliances now.
