QB John Brodie again led the 49ers along with Recs Bernie Casey, Monty Stickles and Dave Parks with Len Rohde and Bruce Bosley anchoring the OL. Defensively DT Charlie Krueger, LB Matt Hazeltine and DBs Abe Woodson and Kermit Alexander were the leaders. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE to this channel for more vintage football DVDs.

John Brodie: one of my childhood heroes. This was an interesting team, and they'd finish over .500 the following year, but then flattened out for the rest of the 60s. Then the magic year of 1970!

Read word that former 49er cornerback Jimmy Johnson, who played with the team from 1961 to 1976...a 5-time Pro Bowler (1969-72, 1974)...1st team All-Pro (1970-72)... & Hall of Fame inductee (1994)...passed away on Wednesday evening, at age 86. He will be sadly missed.

That Billy Kilmer was certainly an athlete before going to Washington later on

Loved Dave Parks and Matt Hazeltine from this team. Wish Dave and Matt were around 6 years later when they were finally good on offense and defense. It wasn't until 1962 that the "SF" logo first appeared on their helmets.

helmets. Yes, they had stupid looking "Northwestern" stripes on their helmets in 1960 and '61, which didn't match the three stripes on the sleeves or socks. Also, from 1959 through '63, the 49ers wore red and silver, not gold. They've worn red and gold since 1964. The only other years they did were 1947, 1957 and '58. All the other years they wore either red and white or red and silver.

Hazeltine retired after the '67 season, only to come back in 1969 and play one year for the NY Giants. He was a Cal grad, from Marin, where he played rugby as well as football. His dad was also at Cal during the rugby era, 1906-18, playing in 1911-14 I believe. Cal went back to American football in 1915. Parks got traded to the Saints in '67. Stupid trade.

@@ldfreitas9437yes I agree. Parks and Washington would've been like Solomon and Clark. Better in many ways.

@@ldfreitas9437started watching them in black&white in '63 so all those changes didn't appear on tv. Found out decades later they used silver when I saw old color footage of them. I only ever knew them the way they are now more or less. Have always hated the white pants though

No, the late Bob Fouts, who was the play by play 49er announcer for CBS TV telecasts, the father of Dan Fouts of the San Diego Chargers. Before the CBS gig, he was on KSFO radio for 49er games. He was replaced by Lon Simmons in 1958 on the radio, the same broadcaster of the SF Giants, who had moved to SF that year.
