Zenith Record changer with Micro-Touch 2G tonearm. Made in-house by Zenith from 1962 thru early 1965 and used in top of the line consoles. The collapsable 45 "clamshell" 45 adapter is unique to this series. Two gram tracking along with a true floating cartridge that has a frequency response of 20 to 20Khz make this a true "audiophile" record changer.

I found a suitcase size zenith record player with 2 speakers and record changer at a Salvation Army. It was actually a few years ago it still works and sounds amazing even though someone took the speakers out of one of the speakers. Zenith made some amazing quality gear!

This changer is absolutely INCREDIBLE! Crazy how Zenith Cheapened out over the years. They went from in-house to VM, to BSR by the mid 70's. I have a 1975 Micro-Touch system tonearm that is just simply a BSR changer with a Zenith badge on it.

I have several of these rare, quality built, beautifully performing, feature loaded turntables. Smooth, quiet, precision perfection. They are the prize of my Zenith collection. Used through 1969. Since parts are rare to find, try to make sure the motor bearings stay clean and lubricated. After nearly 50 years of service or non-service, they are bound to be needing some attention. No-one made things like Zenith, and it shows. "The Quality Goes In Before The Name Goes on".

I get a thrill (yes, I'm a geek) out of the innovations that came out of this period, and the attention that was paid to building a quality product. These were precision-crafted instruments and the amount of care and engineering that went into making them is very evident. I hope to one day have a nice Zenith stereo with one of these changers, but I'm also a big fan of the big Magnavox stereos and their 'MicroMatic' changers. It's a shame that the high quality, innovative stuff like what Zenith, Magnavox, RCA, and so on used to make isn't manufactured any more. I like to imagine what it would be like if Zenith or Magnavox or Motorola still made stereo consoles today, and built them with the craftsmanship that they were so proud of in the 1960s. Old-school quality with modern features in a big stylish cabinet. I think that's a wonderful thought.

I agree with you there, they made great quality stereos back in the day. It's a shame they don't make them anymore, nowadays they make cheap throwaway crap from china that has killed the TV/ Radio repair shops. Alot of the old timers who repaired Radios and TV have passed away.

The 45 adaptor is a great idea, usually changers have different spindles and sometimes one of both is lost or hard to get or maybe the player was used in a country with ¼" single hole.

Cool changer. Zenith continued to make Micro-Touch 2G tonearm changers right up until the early 1970’s when Zentih stopped production and turned into BSR changers. RIP: Chris Cuff 😢

I just found a French Provincial giant Zenith yesterday, with what must have been the third version of that changer, the headshell was slimmer. I guess the owner must have smashed a panel under the lid and shoved the cheap 8 track player into it, otherwise, it was flawless. Love to have one, but prefer an unmolested console. Yours is just stunning!

I like to use changers from time to time. I have a bunch of LP box sets that have the sides arranged for changer play. And yes its great to have a reliable changer like that. I get pretty tired of the constant re-adjustments that I have to make to my old Dual changer. Too bad these weren't more popular and easier to find today to restore. I never see anything at garage and estate sales but the really cheapo BSR plastic crap.

@4cats2008 VM never made a changer with the fold up 45 adapter- These changers here may have been in some newer consoles up to about 1966 or so. My 1964 model was a hybrid- the tuner was tube, and the amp part was transistorized.

Chris, I too am a big fan of the Zenith High Fidelity Stereo. Mine is the "Stereo Precision" record changer and Micro - touch 2G Tone Arm, perhaps 1965 vintage. Have you ever changed the cartridge or needle on one of these? I seem to have worn the needle off of mine, I suppose when the arm did not automatically return. I am lost as to what to do next as I would like to continue enjoying my vintage stereo. Any direction you can share will be greatly appreciated!

Zenith never left VM until about 1975. These changers were in house manufactured and were only installed into their top of the line consoles and as stand alone audiophile components. They were neither appreciated or cost effective, so they went bye bye.

If you ever have a tracking problem with that , check where the pivot pins go into the arm, mine had one side wowed out probably due to wear though the years, and the cartridge was crooked ever so slightly enough to cause it not to play 45 records, it would play 33's but it could not handle the higher speed 45 rpm so it would skip across the record until I fixed that crooked cartridge pin... just a little FYI

Hello Chris. I hope you are doing well. Thank you for the video for the Zenith microtouch 2g 2nd zenith designer. I recently bought a Zenith console and I’m having difficulty finding the correct stylus. I believe I have model MK2607 5K29. I could be wrong because half of the model # has been erased. Any help would be great

@64098 Interesting! You mean it had a narrow headshell, but still had the collapsable 45 adapter? I never saw any other versions except the two I have. They are very good changers, for sure.

I have 2 VM changers with the same arm as this changer has. I also have the larger and smaller versions of the Micro-Touch arms also VM. Were there more than 3 versions of the Micro-Touch arm? I know the needles are all interchangeable.

I found year is 1965. (tech manual dated March '64 but used again in '65) Also is hybrid mix of tube/solid state (amp). But still unsure difference between MM & ML. MM2870 on a turntable parts site shows MM as 23.6 & the ML2870 as 20.3 .The Sam's man said it looks like the 2870 had interchangable turntables as manual shows 2 numbers for the changer. The MM 2870 is not in the manual for the ML2870 so those are different. But so far, coming up blank.

I'm hoping you might be able to assist me with my Zenith with the Micro-Touch 2G tonearm. I just picked up this beautiful console stereo--the radio works; the turntable does not. After watching your video, I really would like to get this up and running. It doesn't turn on at all. I've taken it out and cleaned it. Everything seems to be in order, but nada. Do you think the motor itself might need replacing?

@fortyfiveplayer Yes, it had the headshell that appeared on the VM changers, with the round stylus cap/control, it is tempting, but the people in that place have tried to sell their consoles for $400 and up.

My friend has a similar player. It’s the same model just built into the old school housing unit. I want to help her replace the needle and I’m looking into it, but would you mind making a recommendation to me on what I purchase cause I’m getting a lot of results and I just wanna get it right the first time. Same micro 2g touch. Same looking as in the video. Record player is just white and grey. Hit me back. Thanks!

Great clip! Would a post 1964 VM changer look different? A console I'm looking at has same turntable w/pullout 45 adaptor & 2G tone arm BUT it's solid state so I thought it must be 1965 or later, as Zenith stopped tubes after '64. If Zenith went back to VM after 1964 , the console I'm looking at is either hybrid or someone put the '64 changer in it. . I'm trying to date it, but even the model number ML2608-3 is confusing. Do you know the difference between a MM2608 and ML2608-3?

Same changer in our "new" Zenith Y960W console dated 1968. Idler wheel turns but not making contact w/belt pulley. Table not turning. Sam's SM record changer Set 660, Folder 14 dated 1963 is the one to use for this model & looks to me like problem lies in area of speed control cam & assembly. When selecting speeds part of the cam seems to slip out of a groove on the assembly. Do you have referral to anyone who can fix this? Can ship it anywhere as got changer out, but no inexperience w/this.

I had a 1964 edition... could not get it to play modern records... would skip all the way across, put in new needle , no difference....unless I added about 4 more grams to it.... then it would play fine... come to find out the pot metal tone arm was worn out where the cartridge mounts in the slots...so the cartridge would not sit level in the arm ... ended up using it for parts and trashed the rest
