A rare look at what was then Western Samoa in the mids 60s, just a few years after she gained Independence in 1962 from the New Zealand administration.

OML thanks so much for sharing this. The wedding featured is of my grandparents Moegagogo and Emi. I am the only grandchild of this marriage.

Emi was a beautiful intelligent woman. Very close to my father, her brother. This is wonderful to have a record of their wedding on movie. This is the first time I've seen Moegagogo. Lovely

My family lived in Samoa between 1956 and 1960. I have literally thousands of slides that my dad took and I don't know what to do with them. Would you be interested in helping me sort them with a view to giving them to a Samoan museum??

Thank you Gerry. That is precious and will be welcomed by the Museum in Samoa. Im willing to help and provide some support for you. Whereabouts do you live? Kind regards.

The Museum of Samoa would love to be gifted with those slides. Just type Museum of Samoa and find their contact details and get in touch with them. Better that way as you can organise directly with them on how to send those. The package can be received directly by the Museum, rather than through third parties.

These were good old times my Grandma and (late) Grandpa got to experience in Samoa but left for NZ in the 1960's to give my parents and grandchildren a better life. I wish I was born and raised in Samoa better than what we have nowadays, no culture, people are ashamed of their culture, ethnicity and background. Alofa atu papa and mama who taught me and my parents the traditional Island way🇼🇸

the people in this video are alot more healthy looking than the people of samoa are now. their diet would have been way more healthy than the fried and processed foods they eat now. its really good to see what a beutifull life style they had back then.

You are exactly right. Its the same in my country Fiji when I compare the people now to those who lived in the sixties. Our Island traditional diet is the best but the over consumption of processed food is creating problems in our communities.

Peace after independence 1962. Thank heavens. My great grandad Te'o Tuvale was there during German rulings n then British under the guidance of New Zealand. Terrible times for Samoa but our forefathers fought hard and we became the first nation to be freed from foreign hands. Proud of being Samoa forever 🇼🇸❤

The video is great but the logo in the corner is obnoxiously big. You could have at least made it more transparent if you wanted to keep it so large.

Notice how most of our people were in good shape back in those days?? And now, being big is looked at as a good thing when it’s not 🤦🏽‍♂️ ua ova le ai mea suamalie lol 😆

being big through eating rubbish food only causes sickness and is an early path to death. It's not a good thing at all being big and fat. Lovely people that the white man have just dumped their bad food and eating habits on.

Proud, samoans are more Christians per capita than any race in the world. That's why our lands are blessed abundantly. We may not be an industrialized country, but we know what matters the most. Yes, sir, God first. Which our entire lifestyle revolves around and is about.
