It was supposed to be the greatest grand final ever. The ABC's John Penlington reported on the day the Saints didn't quite go marching in.

What a great docco. It's interesting to see how society was, compared to today. So many suits, shirts, ties, just to go to the football. People gave a damn what they looked like in public. And people seems to speak better back then. Now, every sentence starts with "so" and every third word is "like"

Saints were favourites but Essendon was experience because the latter won their 11th premiership flag 3 years prior.

@J G There isnt even 240 countries on this earth. Soccer hated in australia, usa, new zealand, canada, etc etc etc. And they are the countries with the highest standard of living. So stick your 3rd world game where it fits.

No such thing those days. They had a coin toss to decide black/white shorts & pretty sure for which rooms too.

Actually weed was used more in the 1960s then now, as well as LSD through the hippie movement.

Saints wore white shorts because there's white in the middle of their guernsey & the dons wear black shorts to match their guernsey.
