If Volvo ever would do a retro inspired car, they should make one out of the Amazon. They're absolutely gorgeous.

Hello from Canada, i have the exact same car 65 , 4dr . white. Bought in the 80s from California. Converted it to 68 specs, dual brakes with 240 booster, headrests, and overdrive that make a huge difference in driving comfort. This one is a great survivor ,very little rust, good candidate for upgrades. Keep on rolling !

Yours sounds like a sweet ride! I have a 5speed & one of these day I will have to install it.

I have a 1967 Canadian model, also fitted with the overdrive (and also an exhaust manifold) from a 123GT. Alberta (rust free) car. What is the 240 booster you refer to? Also, could you simply add headrests or did you need to change the whole seat out?

@@stephenburnage7687 Hello from Montreal I installed the 240 brake booster and master cyl to replace the original 68 booster and master cyl that i did not have confidence in....The bolt pattern is the same.Takes a bit of custom brake pedal linkage and brake line mods however ..car stops like my S60...As for the headrests i found a 68 backrest frame section and transferred over the foam and leather skin. Keep on rolling

Mine was a 1963 2 door. In that time period most sports cars had a solid rear axle. These cars were very successful rally cars in their day. The P1800 was essentially the same chassis. That scenery reminds me of the run up to Mt. Rainier on 410.
@carsmiles40357 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! and yes even the Alfa Giulia 105 series had a solid rear axle.

I have a 1967 (Canadian). Love it and cant tell you how often people stop me to say how much they love it too. Totally rust free and original (apart from adding an overdrive from a 123GT). Just imported it into the UK.

Was it easy fitting an overdrive as I’d like the same 😁
@stephenburnage76872 жыл бұрын
@@M1GWEL It was fitted when I bought the vehicle so I can't really say. But my mechanic did put it on the lift for me to take a look and it's didn't look that difficult. Was fitted in between gearbox and drive shaft.
@adrianl71475 ай бұрын
@@M1GWELYou can't simply add an overdrive. You have to change the entire transmission and add the one with the overdrive built on. It's an easy swap

the viscoelastic soundproofing panels are completely dry on that car, to what I remember, these cars were not that noisy, you only head a subtle engine rumble at speed. good video
@carsmiles40355 ай бұрын
That'd make sense. I know these cars were well built because it still has a running original drive train that is 59 years old. I need to restore this car one of these days.

That used to be my first car: I bought it used and 20 years old in 1984, drove it for 7 years. Unfortunately it had got some rust and I had to let it go. However it survived two winters in Finland and a long Italian journey, which brought me up to mount Etna (over 10'000 feet altitude...). Would take it again if I could find a good one not too expensive. Now, I drive a Volvo V70 with 435000 km (270'000 miles). Still perfect.

7:14 What does the "s" in 122s stand for then? :P The Amazon actually did very well in rallying in the 60s. Volvo used the trailing arm solid axle up until the late 90s in the 940 and also won a lot of races in the 1980s with the 240.

@@carsmiles4035 Back in the '70's I owned a '74 142 with the 4 speed manual and it was so noisy at highway speeds with the engine turning well over 3000 RPM's. If it had been equipped with the electric overdrive manual I would have kept it but after a year I sold it and bought a '77 264GL with the 3 speed automatic. It was so much more enjoyable to drive - both on the highway and in the city.

The Amazon is my next project car.Im gonna put a Volvon B230 turbo engine fron a Volvo 940 in it with a M47 5 speed gearbox from a 740 and a rear axle from a 240. I think 250 hp in a Amazon, about 1130 kg is gonna be far more fun than the original 75 hp

@@carsmiles4035 Its not that hard to do engine and tranny is bolt on, just make new motormounts but i guess you can buy them. The rear axle ned amazon connections and you take the hole brakesysten from a 240 but i sugest some bigger disks than the amazons, i think you can make the 140 front disks fit. Anyway, the Amazons are almost all gone even here in Sweden and are getting real expensive, its not like 30 years ago when they where almost for free, nobody wanted them, now they are classics and a amazon in mint condition is really expensive
