Tel Ra did films of the NFL from the 1940s until the 1950s. Narrators included Ted Husing, Harry Wismer and Jim Leaming. They did films of the AFL until Ed Sabol and NFL Films absorbed Tel Ra Films and took over the package.

Willie Mitchell was a nickel back by the time the CHIEFS won SUPE IV.. He had a very brief career in the NFL days, too, post-‘69. Williamson was less than a journeyman in the NFL before his AFL days. Gonsoulin had a big picks season in the early days of the weaker era of the AFL, and was out of the league in just a few years. Sample had one big season himself in the NFL and then was average thereafter. He was good in the stronger days of the AFL, but quit before the 1970’s NFL era..PAULSON never was good in his very brief days in the NFL. Finally, only W. BROWN was truly great in both the AFL& post-‘69 AFC/NFL years. ALWORTH was great in the AFL, at the end of his career in the early NFL ‘70’s era he was just.. okay at ages 31-33..

@@kirkmoore4515 I know all about Coryell. He was undoubtedly influenced by Gilman as much as Walsh was. The difference is that Walsh's version of Gilman's pass-oriented offense was designed with a weak-armed QB in mind, whereas Coryell's wasn't.

My opinion is not irrelevant. Alex Spanos wanted to keep the Chargers in San Diego, but the city couldn't get him the financial resources to get him a palatial new home to build it. San Diegans were hurt.

Interesting timeline, the Chargers and the city of San Diego were arguing over a new stadium for the Chargers years ago, long before the roof of the Vikings stadium collapsed under the snow in Minneapolis. Since then the Vikings and the city of Minneapolis argued over a new stadium, settled their argument, built a new stadium, and the Vikings are now playing in a new house. Meanwhile the Chargers and the City of San Diego are still arguing.

And now the Chargers are back in Los Angeles. But they belong in San Diego. I hope they move back one day.

The Chargers never played in LA in the 80's, the Raiders did from '82 to '94. The Chargers played in LA for one year, 1960.

Having been to a few games at Qualcomm I would say one big problem is there are no good seats. It is due to it being designed as a multi-sport stadium. Row 20 of the lower level on the 50 yard line should be the best seat in the house, but it is a long way from the field. Compare it to seats on the 50 yard line at UNLV for the Las Vegas Bowl for example, and Qualcomm stadium sucks for watching football in comparison. I don't know why it has to take a billion $ to fix it, though.

Yes. But they added water tanks, and that fixed it. Later, they did a "super flush"--volunteers were stationed at every toilet. When a signal was given, all the toilets were flushed simultaneously. They worked.

@tommythomason6187, Their long and gradual decline from the AFL/AFC West's upper echelon mainly owed to poor personnel and drafting decisions, primarily on the defensive side of the field. In '66, the Chargers' drop from title contention can be attributed to a disastrous rush defense which went from first in the League to the worst in every meaningful metric. They couldn't get off the field as opponents increasingly ran roughshod over them as the season progressed, leading to winning only 3 times in their last 10 games, despite still having a pretty potent offense. The team was a non-factor in the divisional race after late season collapses in both '67 and '68 until the Coryell era really moved into high gear a decade later.

also, how were the Chargers the most successful afl team up to this point? perhaps more regular season wins, but the Oilers and Bills had both won 2 championships, and all four of those championships came at the expense of the chargers. who was more successful in the 70's? the Steelers 4 super bowl championships or the cowboys 5 super bowl appearances? how about the early 90's Bills or Cowboys? the team that wins championships.

Also, I believe that Buffalo had beaten the Chargers in two straight AFL championship games.

Not to mention the LA fan base hates the Chargers because they are either Rams or Raiders fans, or they simply hate them because San Diego is a rival city to LA. Rams fans have already started a boycott of the Chargers moving to LA and have over 50,000 members
